Review summary

Ship was great! Ports were fun. We saw so much cool stuff. Highly recommend this cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Due to the way MSC Med cruises work, embarking was really easy. Every port passengers are embarking and disembarking. We arrived well before our assigned time and it to less then 30 minutes to get on the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Dining room service was really good. Food was underwhelming but nice. Buffet was very good. Best pizza at sea. A lot of options for every meal. We did not try specialty dining.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The water park was great for adults and kids alike. It was also kept away from the main pool area. The ropes course was fun and challenging. We only tried the indoor pool and it was great. Due to the time of year the main pools were pretty empty, but looked amazing. As I mentioned before the water park is in a different location from the four pools. So there are lots of options. Gym looked good. I never tried it.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
MSC shows can be strange and disjointed. They are entertaining, but weird. The Cosmos cirque de solie show was really awesome and worth the additional cost. The excintricks show was not good. Too much sexual innuendo and crowd participation or my liking. DJ was good. Lots of parties in the Galleria Grandiosa.

Children's Programs

2 out of 5
My three teenagers went once. The activity was “just dance competition” it ended up being 20 teens and one adult sitting around playing “have you ever”. After several comments regarding sexual activities and different drug use, my kids left and never went back. My 11 year old never tried the kids club. We’ve done two MSC cruises and both were lacking adult instruction and coordination for the teen activities. NCL had a great program my kids never wanted to leave, both teen and child.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I honestly did not have one bad experience with the staff on this cruise. All were friendly professional and overall great.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Extremely clean and never once did I smell the out house smell that every other ship sometimes gets. The bathrooms were top notch. I have been on six cruises in the past 3 years and this is the best ship I’ve been on. Ruby Princess,MSC Seaside, NCL Getaway NCL Epic,NCL, Bliss The ropes cours, water park and inside pool were all completely separate. The layout was so good. Dining rooms were great. Casino was tucked away. Awesome

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I was blown away by the room. We opted for the Fantástica experience and assumed the room would be cramped. Not at all. Our four kids fit fine. Much better then NCL rooms. The room was always cleaned and room steward handled all our requests excellently.

Ship tip

Edge bar staff is awesome! Bar service in the buffet is awesome! Just push the button and all your drinks come to you. To play ping pong or foosball in the jungle pool, you need to get the rackets and balls at the sports plex desk. Kind of a pain, but on the same deck.

Ports of call

Marseille (Provence), France

4 out of 5
Marseille itself was not all that great. Somewhat dirty and uninviting. We took a bus tour to Aix en Provence. That was a beautiful town. Everything you would hope for in a French town. Cobblestone streets, great bakeries, open air markets and shopping. (Both low and very high end)

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Very well organized port. We did a hop on hop off tour and really liked it. The city is beautiful and clean. People were friendly and willing to help.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
We stayed a week in Rome before the cruise and it was great.

Palermo, Sicily

The port can be a little hectic. When you walk out, you are on an extremely busy street. It was busy. We did a street food tour and had a great time.

Valletta, Malta

5 out of 5
Gorgeous! We organized and friendly Take a water taxi to the three cities. You will not be disappointed. Rolling geeks was fun

Genoa, Italy

3 out of 5
It looks nice, but is busy and dirty. We just walked around a bit.

Disembarkation

Really easy
