Definitely take the train from Messina to Taormina - you won't regret it! The views of the coast and the town itself are amazing.

Highlights of Taormina. The views were wonderful. The tour guide was not. She did not have a lot of information and just kept repeating geographical details rather than historical information.

We took the highlights of Taormina excursion that starts with a bus trip through hills and over a dozen tunnels. We were very glad to not have to try to figure out how to get up there on our own. Whatever you do, don't miss Taormina!! It's amazing. Greek / Roman theatre in one direction, active volcano in another, a fascinating town with all sorts of uniquely Sicilian touches, great food, and breathtaking Mediterranean views in all directions! The one thing that would really be appreciated would be a chance to stay longer in Taormina. By the time we got there and saw the panoramas and theatre there was hardly any time to get to enjoy the town. It would be easy to spend a whole day up there, but if that's not possible then could the excursion at least add an hour or 2? The town of Messina was kind of quiet, as it was the midday time when things were closed, but we did enjoy the clock tower aned church in the town square.

I only rank it poorly because our half day stop was ridiculous when our cruise boat kept recommending everywhere that we go to Taormina. We got to Taormina with an hour and a half of travel and had only an hour before needing to head back to the boat. Since Taormina is a tourist haven for thousands, we waited almost an hour just for food. Needless to say, all we saw was the inside of the restaurant. When we got back to Messina, we realized it was perfectly lovely. So . . . go to Taormina only if you have the time, enjoy Messina!

A wonderful snapshot of Sicily. We took a tour on our own and enjoyed a walking tour through the Old Town. We are history buffs and we enjoyed all the historic spots in Messina.

We walked around Messina & had a nice day. Last time we visited this port we did a shore excursion with lunch to Taromina & I would highly recommend that for a first visit to Sicily.

Loved this port because we took a private excursion to Taormina and Savoca. It was absolutely beautiful.

Went to Taormina which was beautiful but did not have much time to look around. It was very crowded.
