We had a private tour which was great. However, still wall to wall people. Our tour guide in Florence called it a “phenomena” the huge increase in tourists to Italy in the past 3 to 4 years. People from all over the world have a freer opportunity to travel than at any time in the past. And Italy with its history seems to be a huge draw.

I would highly recommend any excursion that goes to Cinque Terre. Five beautiful and remote coastal towns. Beautiful ride there and the excursion we took through NCL visited 3 of the 5 towns and allowed ample free time to roam around two of the three. As part of this excursion we took a bus, a boat, and a train. It was awesome. You will probably not find an excursion that visits all five due to the limited time in port.

I took the bus and the train to Florence and returned in time to visit Pisa. the adrenaline rush to ensure I was back on time was something I have not experienced in a long time. Booked an excursion in Florence through Viator

Did the ship tour: Florence on the Lighter Side. Tour guide was knowledgeable but after several warnings from him about beggars, street vendors, gypsies, pick pockets and a local gang, we were scared to death. The city we saw was filthy, in a state of disrepair and constantly smelled of sewer gas. I personally hated this city, but all the other reviews are so overwhelmingly positive, I think I may have just had an off day.

I’ve been here before and we had 2 days here. Its an hour in the train to Pisa which I visited recently and further to Florence where I spend some days recently so I didn’t re visit but stayed most of the time on the ship.

Took HOHO bus here also but was limited due to recent Sept flood which destroyed property and killed 8 people. The downtown area is still interested with many shops and a small canal system.

If traveling in little group, rent a car and drive on your own, is very close to everything.

The Art History value of the Museums is not to be missed. We also had plenty of time to shop. Our tour bypassed Pisa.

The excursion called Best of Pisa and Florence was so so. Long lines for seeing David and everything else was just viewing outside of buildings. Guide was not to good and headsets were poor audio quality.
