Trips to Pisa are €12 from the centre of Livorno so no need to book a tour if you don't want to! Also the train station is easy to walk to or get a bus and Pisa and Florence can be reached on several lines out of that station. We walked round Livorno this year and loved the market (indoor is amazing! Outdoor is also fab). Loads of shops to satisfy everyone.

It takes a long while to get out of the port and is a bit of a run down town but is nice anyway. We took the bus to Pisa which was great to see but we wouldn't go again. Last time we came we went to Florence and that was beautiful.

Have to say --- out of all our ports of call, I absolutely fell in love with Lucca. What a beautiful city with beautiful and friendly people! LOVED it!
