we stayed at Civitavecchia. saved money on a 9 hours trip to Rome for bieng there for 3.5 houres.

Lots to see, very heavy crowds. Again, tremendous amount of walking. Wished the buses could have picked us up closer to the Vatican. Lunch prior to the Vatican was not that great. Wished we could have gone into the coliseum verses driving by at 40 mph.

Prepare to travel as this port is nowhere near Rome... best to book an excursion.. but prepare to pay $$$$.

So much to do in Rome. Did private tours. Train is currently being worked on. Plan other transportation for now. Would have spent weeks exploring Rome.

Took the train to Rome and toured the city on our own. Train was 12€ and took about 1 hour to the Vatican.
