Rome is amazing! I'm sure You know it. But this port is not Rome. Almost one hour to get there. The best and cheapest way to go to Rome to go by train. (if You rich choose a fancy black van and everything gonna be alright) The train stop right next to the Vatican 🇻🇦, start there. Rome is not a one they trip city. Best to start here or finish here the cruise. Or come back every year for a day trip :).

The ship-sponsored tour was great, but there is waaaay too much to see in one short day, especially since the drive into Roma took forever because of traffic, Still, it's like the history pages from long ago school books came to life right in front of us.

The port is smaller than the norm but loved how easy it was to get on and off the ship there.

Once again, we booked an excursion from a private company. It was the total Rome package with stops at the Vatican, the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and all points in between. Our guide (Claudia) was very knowledgable, articulate & friendly.

Did the 10hr excursion to St Peters Square, Basilica, Sistine Chapel, Vatican museums, with outside tour of Colisseum and Roman Forum; Excellent excursion, very tiring due to amount of activities in a short time. Got closer to Colisseum and roman forum than i expected. Its hard to appreciate sistine chapel , st peters basilica & vatican museums on a one day trip like this. Its a taste but not no time to really view the art work. The guides, Gloria and Mohammed, were exceptional; very professional, knowledgeable and helpful; they have alot of energy and responsibility for such a large tourist group (45).

Rome is a far trip and a crowded city. Amazing sights to see but be prepared-it is a long day.

We went to Tarquinia instead of Rome on our own ... it was a smart move! Here is why... beautiful, less people, food was great, and we didn’t have to knock into anyone. Here is how we did it without wasting 80€/person. To tarquinia...from cruise ship. Go to the magazines stand (pics below) buy the bus ticket for 1.3€ each way. Then goes to the bus stop the on the other side of the street next to the gas station. Get on the Blue bus going to Tarquinia. They stops at the city center. There is a tourist information office right at the stop...get your info n be on your way to an excursion of a cute little town. When you are done, go back to the same place to catch the bus back for 1.3€

We visited the Vatican and Sistine chapel as well as a walking tour past the Colisseum and to St Peter in Chains and the basilica. It was a very exhausting day but our tour guide Gloria and tour leader Mohammed were awesome. We saw so much in that day! Mohammed made us feel very safe and protected from pickpockets, etc and Gloria obviously had a passion for Roman history and voluminous knowledge.
