Our guided tour was cancelled due to low participation so we were on our own. This city was very dirty and in sore need of restoration. We found no one speaking English at all.

Important to note that the beaches don't open until June 1st of the year. When we got off the ship, we asked the cab sand girl if a cab could take us to a local beach with restaurants, umbrellas, loungers, etc. and she said there were tons of options at Lidi beach and that someone there could call us a cab to get back to the ship. So we hopped in a cab and he dropped us off at a place that looked like it would be good. We walked in and it was a ghost town. It looked like it had been abandoned for years. We finally found someone down at the beach and asked what was going on because all the beach restaurants and bars were closed. We were told the season didn't start until June 1. So we finally found someone who would call us a cab, all in all it was a waste of the day and €45.

Again take the hop on hop off bus. The last stop before going back to the ship is the city center. Spend a couple of hours there.

A little short on time, as with most the stops, but nice to walk around town. Didn't do an excursion here.

Catania is interesting. You can see that it was once prosperous from the buildings, but now run-down with graffiti and litter. Did a ship excursion to Etna & Taormina. Best bit was the ancient theatre in Taormina - amazing views.

Ugly city not too much to do. Got to spend time in Taormina at end of trip. Better port. So if your ship lands in Catania take transport to Taormina
