Review summary

The thing I liked most about the cruise was sailing into and out of the ports. How lovely to peep round the curtains first thing in the morning to yet another lovely view and sit in the Sky lounge in the evening with a glass of wine as we sailed away.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We were a little earlier than the suggested time on the email we received from Celebrity but were processed and onto the ship immediately.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
MDR - a bit hit and miss, some really nice dishes, some mediocre. Queues for Select Dining for the first 2 nights but settled down after that. Tables for 2 are too close to neighbours. Good service, prompt and helpful. Buffet was excellent for breakfast and lunch, but a bit sad in the evenings. Lovely and attentive service.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Outdoor pool area was noisy and crowded. Indoor pool was much nicer.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We didn’t go to any shows as it’s not our sort of thing. Enjoyed the dance band in the Rendezvous lounge but found the DJ in the atrium and the band by the pool noisy and intrusive.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
So good. Room steward was excellent, service in buffet and lounges was good. Loved being greeted cheerfully when reboarding at ports or just meeting staff in corridors.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I read lots of reviews before we sailed about the Constellation being dated and I can see what people mean. There are scuffs and scratches and the decor isn’t modern and glitzy. But I thought the public spaces were attractive and comfortable and liked smaller ship vibe.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Spacious, light, good storage. Shower wasn’t brilliant - hot water but underpowered and irritating curtain.

Ship tip

Use the Reflections/Sky lounge at the top forward deck. They reserve a bit of it for the Captain’s Club events in the early evening which means most people tend not to go there, but there are still seats you can use, and the views are amazing.

Ports of call

Venice, Italy

5 out of 5
Spent the night here before the cruise which meant we got an evening and morning when it wasn’t so crowded.

Koper, Slovenia

2 out of 5
Not much to do here so I’d recommend an excursion.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

4 out of 5
Did ship excursion - enjoyed boat trip and guided walk. Cable car was a bit disappointing - I was stuck in the middle of the car so no view and viewing point at top was crowded.

Kotor, Montenegro

4 out of 5
The best thing about Kotor was the sail in and out which was beautiful.

Valletta, Malta

4 out of 5
So pretty from our balcony, especially at sunrise and sunset. Did ship tour to Mdina and then Valletta walking tour. Mdina is lovely. Valletta has a lot of construction going on.

Catania, Sicily

4 out of 5
Catania is interesting. You can see that it was once prosperous from the buildings, but now run-down with graffiti and litter. Did a ship excursion to Etna & Taormina. Best bit was the ancient theatre in Taormina - amazing views.

Naples, Italy

3 out of 5
Similar to Catania in that there are some beautiful buildings marred by graffiti and litter. Did a short city tour which was good.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
Stayed for 2 extra nights at the end of the cruise. Seemed like hard work having to look after ourselves after being pampered on the cruise, but unmissable.
