Knossos Palace is really the only thing to do here. Do not waste your money on a shore excursion through the cruise line. There is a bus station that takes you right to the palace and back for 5 euros per person, unlimited stops on the bus. There is a kiosk right when you get off the free shuttle bus from the ship to the front of the port by the taxi station. Ignore the taxi drivers trying to sell you on their trips and find the bus station kiosk on the left.

We did not schedule any tour or excursion in Crete. When we got off the ship and noticed that there was nothing within walking distance, we decided to take a hop on/off bus. We visited a couple of historical sites and enjoyed lunch and shopping as well.

Probably the cheapest port we visited lots to do only a short walk from the ship.

Knossos is an archaeology lover's delight. Do some shopping and see the Venetian Fort while in port.

It was nice to just do what we wanted without a pre planned excursion. We hired a car to take us around the city, and had a great day viewing castles, and shopping!

No excursion, we taxied into town and walked back. You have to take a shuttle to and from the pier to the port entrance then a 20 minute walk to the pedestrian area of the city. Very pretty area downtown lots of shaded cafes and restaurants. Walked along the seaside for a while until it became little run down then turned back toward the city walls. We were still tired from the day before and I had no fresh clothes but we made the best of it. 4 stars because of proximity to historical sights and friendliness of the locals plus fair prices in cafe for drinks and snacks.
