I loved Cuba despite the fact that Royal Carribean changed our shore excursion without notifying us prior to leaving Miami. We had to pay for the ship's Wifi to cancel and reschedule other excursions that we had planned. Guest services was not helpful with this issue.

The city of Havana was amazing, and there's absolutely no point in going on this particular cruise and itinerary if you're not going to get off the boat in Havana and make the most of your time there. We started our day-and-a-half in Cuba with the "Ultimate Havana Highlights" excursion that we booked through Norwegian. We had to meet in the theater at 8:10am for our 9:30am excursion. Now, I know that the boat has to cater to the lowest common denominator passenger, but it felt like they were trying to corral elementary school kids for a field trip the way they condescendingly loaded us onto the buses. We were told by the excursion rep in the theater to NOT exchange money for Cuban pesos in the port before getting on our boat, because we wouldn't have time, and also that all the places we'd stop on the excursion would take American dollars. We heeded this advice but wished we hadn't; we'd have had PLENTY of time to exchange money, and we also did not get the impression that every place we stopped would take dollars. It felt like bad information and we regret having not exchanged money at the port before we left for the tour. The tour was as basic-bitch as you could expect: a giant, air-conditioned bus filled with people ranging in interest, personal responsibility, and manners. We actually got to get out and explore sites at more places than I expected, which was a lovely surprise. However, at at least one of those spots, it really just felt like a mechanism for us to be sold shit at touristy stomping grounds. Our guide was fine/nice/informative/good sense of humor. The one hiccup was that we were told we had 25 minutes at a particular site, and everyone except ONE PERSON arrived back on the bus in a timely fashion, requiring us to wait for said-person for nearly an hour. (It was lovely - I took a nap on the bus.) Why we didn't just leave without this person is beyond me. Why we got the most defensive response from our tour guide as to why we had to blitz through the last third of our tour (instead of any kind of apology) is beyond me. Why the Shore Excursion desk on the ship did not even acknowledge our commentary about the money-exchange-advice or the delay on the bus but just dismissed our complaints as worthless is also beyond me. But then again most things are beyond me. Would not recommend this particular excursion but if you have to do something to fulfill your People-to-People visa, it wasn't the WORST thing in the world. We stayed in Havana till 1:00am or so on the first night in port, and then went out again the next morning until just before the boat left (as it was our intention to make the most of our Cuba time). We drank mojitos to our hearts' delight and had a great time doing non-excursion stuff around the city from 1:30pm on!

Easy to disembark. Be aware of the peddlers when you get to the square off the boat. They’ll charge you for things AFTER they give you the service and not tell you the cost. Stay away from them or just refuse to pay.

Havana is a good port to visit as long as you know the that you are visiting a controlled environment. We took the Cultural Havana excursion which lasted 7 hours and you were taken to cultural sites and artistic areas. We had lunch at the famous La Floridita restaurant where Ernest Hemingway used to hang out. We discussed with our tour guide the issues of rationing of food and the challenges the Cuban people are facing at this time. It was a good, thought provoking experience.

WOW! Can't really find the words. The process went smoothly. You do have to do an excursion each day you are in Cuba if you disembark. We did the vintage car city tour day 1 and the La Cubana fortress and city tour on day 2. Both were fantastic! We booked the Tropicana show for the 1st night by ourselves online before we left on the cruise which made that process hassle-free as well. The only down side to the vintage car tour is that you have to share the car (4 people besides driver) and that there was no real "guide" except for the meeting locations during the trip. i.e., our first stop was revolution square and the guide told us about that. The last stop (yes, only 2 stops) was at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, which was nice, but we were limited to the bar area and just had a drink. The Tropicana show was amazing! We had dinner at a restaurant in Old Havana first, then took a taxi to the show. We paid the extra $5 in order to take pictures which is well worth it. We were snapping the whole night! A definite highlight of the trip. There is so much to see and we were so glad there were 2 days devoted to Cuba (which was the signalments reason why we selected the MSC Armonia - because of the itinerary to Cuba). It did not disappoint - at all! The fortress tour was so informative. Again, so much to see. We toured the fortress, saw the Christ statue, went to Revolution Square again along with Hotel Nacional de Cuba. We didn't know it included those stops as well, we thought it was just going to be the fortress. When we got back from that tour, we had wanted to check out La Floridita so we took a cab there but it was super crowded and we weren't able to spend any time there due to the crowds. Finding a place to eat lunch on that side of town was difficult. Menus were scarce and heavy on the seafood options. One tip - when you get off the ship and go through immigration, go down the staircase to the left - there will be more money exchange booths downstairs which are less crowded. A very easy process going to and from Cuba. Our excursions kept us so busy we didn't have any time to really shop. That's the only downside, but the experiences were so much more important. Architecture was amazing! Great visit!
