Nassau, Bahamas Port Reviews

Missed GSC private island because of high winds so arrived at Nassau a day early. We could come & go as we pleased all day and night which for us was awesome because we were able to spend time with an old friend that lives in the Bahamas. It was long Easter weekend for the Bahamians so bars & restaurants were pretty hopping! Late night snack at a place a couple of doors down from Senor Frogs that had good conch fritters, crack conch & wings. Spent the following day at Junkanoo Beach free to get on and $5 chair $10 umbrella rentals. A little crowded and several beach huts selling food & all sorts of wares. Free wifi for customers of the beach bar 😎 Got some gorgeous pics at Junkanoo and more conch! We walked to the beach from the port about 1 mile, stay right you can’t miss it. There is a McDonalds not far from port that has free wifi and a Dunkin’ Donuts or Starbucks also.

Bahamas was a fun port of call. Didn’t do the normal trip to Atlantis. We walked through the city shops and ate lunch at the Fish Fry. D Waters Cafe has free internet and the best fried lobster I’ve ever had.

There is a beach within walking distance of the port. Nice place to settle in for the day while in port if you don't want to pay for a beach excursion. Seagulls bar is right there on the beach, killer drink deals for those that are into that.

SENOR FROGS IS DEFINITELY THE BEST CLUB WITH THE BEST DRINKS AND everyone should take a tour through Atlantis.

I was a little leery about this port after reading some reviews and hearing what others had to say about it. We were stopped by a local on our way to Junkanoo beach and offered a “tour by water”. We decided, “why not”, and we were not disappointed one bit! We were able to see much of the island that most do not. And the snorkeling was perfect! Next time we are here, we will be sure look up Angelo with Bahama Water Tours again!

One of our favorite things to do in Nassau is have a drink and appetizer at the brewery across the street where the ship is docked. They actually have an awesome little deck upstairs with fantastic views. Great drinks and fresh seafood!

I loved this port. My husband and i went right after hurricane Irma, so everything was just coming back. We didn’t do any excursions, but decided just to take a walk around the city, and shop, and find a beach. We walked through the shops, and bought a few things, and kept walking further into town, and we met a local that showed us to the “Fish Fry”, and he was awesome, and we tried Conch for the first time. The people there are so friendly. We bought our own snorkeling gear and just chilled at the beach. We are from New Orleans, and it was amazing that so many locals knew so much about my home town that it made us feel like home. They do have people trying to sell you stuff, and yeah it can be a little overwhelming and somewhat annoying, but once you realize that that’s how they make money and feed their families it’s not that big of a deal. We enjoyed ourselves, and will be back again.

We travel on a budget so we don't do excursions. Our first cruise last March we walked to many of the sights in Nassau (Queen's Staircase, Fort Fincastle, Fort Charlotte, Junkanoo Beach and John Watlings Rum Distillary. We also did some shopping at the Straw Market. This second cruise we walked to Ardastra Gardens Zoo, The Bahamas Rum Cake Factory and more shopping at the Straw Market.

When I got off the ship, couldn't find the meeting place for "Nassau Land and Sea" excursion ...asked a nice guy with a tour sign in hand, and find out then and there that it was cancelled! Turns out it was a blessing in disguise.. my husband and I just started walking off the pier, avoided all the salespeople, and found the straw market, parliament square, Queen's staircase and Fort Fincastle (cost $1.08 entry fee) on our own. Saved a bunch of money and got some exercise to boot!!

It's a good and different experience. But the Atlantis is highly overrated and expensive. The locals live "over the hill" and the poverty is soul crushing. Please eat in the tourist area and buy some souvenirs from the locals. Pay for the locals to give you a "tour" and tip them even after you have paid for the tour.
