This port was depressing, the vegetation was brown and dried up. The buildings looked as if they had been in a war zone. There was militia on the corners of the streets.

We did an excursion with Seavis Tours to Saona Island. They were very organized and we had an awesome adventure there. Once we got off the ship and through the reception area in La Romana we found the air conditioned vans waiting for us and took us for our 24 minute ride to Bayahibe were we would meet our twin 200 hp motor boat to take us to the island. The ride across the bay was a little rough in the front of the boat which made it a little more fun for me so make sure you sit in the back if your not into being bounced around like that. It was well worth the ride once we got to Catuano beach on the island. The sand was white and the water was clear and blue. Lounge chairs, shade and drinks were waiting for us and you didn't have to walk out into the water very far to see the coral and the colorful fish it had to offer. An awesome grilled lunch was prepared featuring fish, chicken, pork as well as grilled vegetables and more drinks! After we had some more beach time we got back on the boat and Captain Robert gave us a tour and interesting facts on the mangroves and their importance. Cruising through mangroves we traveled in the shallow waters and saw lots of starfish on either side of the boat. We were able to get out of the boat into the shallow water and see them up close. We took pictures but were encouraged not to touch them as to prevent them from being harmed. We were offered more drinks while we where there and afterwards hopped back in the boat and to Bayahibe and our ride to La Romana.

Is monkey land worth the money? Is there an option to just see the monkeys . I have three kids who prolli won’t want to do the tour and would rather just see and play with monkeys

We did a tour with Seavis Tours. It was amazing! They took us on a speed boat to a sand bar where we got to see star fish and they gave us rum drinks and snack. It was so beautiful there! Next we went to a snorkeling area. We didn’t snorkel. After snorkeling we went to a beach for lunch and swimming. The lunch and drinks was great! I think the tour was about 4.5 hours. Only negative was the photographer that they had. He got very upset with my husband because he didn’t buy his pictures and it wasn’t just once but twice he got nasty with my husband. Finally the guy in charge sent him away and apologized to my husband.

Good port. Prices here were a bit high compared to the other ports. Loved the band playing music to serenade off of the ship and back onto the ship.

Carnival has a big new pool area resort here at the port which was not there last year. It is a nice spot to go if you want to get off the ship and don’t have any excursions planned. Can be rather crowded if you don’t get there early enough. Umbrellas are available for $10 rental fee.
