We did the beach thing here and were disappointed. the ruins tours are the better choice for this port or just shop in town.

We just went into the port area, shopped, ate lunch returned to the ship. It was a fun time. We enjoyed the day. We have never scheduled an excursion here, we just enjoy the simple shopping and dining at this port.

Forget the town, take a tour or taxi elswhere. Mayan ruins are a good bet. Altan Ha was great.

The shoping was pretty good for souvenirs and such things. It was a pretty isolated strip mall type of place. One of the restaurants (they had something like a lobster for a mascot) had really good nachos.

We had booked the 2 person speed boat to a snorkel location, but we learned that this was cancelled when we walked off the pier. This location was built for cruise ships and there is a nice shopping area with restaurants, bars, two pools and several chairs along the rocky coast. Despite our tour cancellation, we loved just relaxing in this area.
