St Maarten is open for business and yes you can see the damage that Irma caused but if the businesses are able to open they are and the rest of the island is ok, St Maarten is better positioned financially than others so they should be back to full strength in no time at all.

We took the water taxi ($7 pp roundtrip) to the shore and had previously made arrangements to rent an umbrella and chairs at Holland House right on the beach. For $20 we got the chairs, umbrella and six beers. Great location. Close to shopping and ship. Great way to DIY.

There is still a lot of work that needs to be done. We went to great bay beach area. Got 2 chairs, umbrella, and 6 beers for $25. There are several places with similar offers all along that beach. Took the water taxi back to port which was very pretty. Car taxi area was chaotic and wish we would have seen the water taxi to the left from the beginning.

Ravaged by hurricane. French side has not even started to recover. Go to maho beach. Its beautiful and best on the island. Skip caribbean princess top 10 tour. Its boring.
