Celebrity Edge

7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)

Sail date: March 10, 2019

Ship: Celebrity Edge

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Family (older children)

Reviewed: 5 years ago

Review summary

Still not sure if the Edge is the type of ship for me. It is very contemporary and we are more traditional. Too much metal and glass. Service, however, can't be beat and I encourage all cruisers to at least consider it unless you have young children that may find it geared more towards older cruisers.

Embarkation

Fast and easy. Very efficient!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Wide variety of food. We were travelling in a group of 9 and everybody always found something to eat and drink. The buffet was always well stocked with a large number of staff making sure empty trays were replenished. Main dining was great. Service was fast and efficient. Everything is new and clean. We enjoyed "Le petit chef" meal. The whole family thought the food was great and service was top-notch.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Some of our group enjoyed the spa with a focus on massage and relaxation. I thought the track was the best at sea as did anybody I talked to on the track. The fitness center was new, clean and had a great view out the front of the ship.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We took in every show and thought the performers were very good. We have been spoiled with Royal Caribbean and their top notch entertainment like Mama Mia and Greece. Did not enjoy the performance in Eden but that may be simply a personal taste.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Any problem we had, such as a key card not working the first day, was dealt with quickly and politely.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship was very clean and because it is new, there was little to no sign of wear. I prefer the layout of the Oasis class ships where you can walk from end to end inside on every level if needed (except for very top decks). I felt this ship often had disjointed segments where you had to take elevators to a certain point, walk across a deck and then continue on in another elevator or stairs. Not a problem for a fit person like myself, but older parents found it confusing at times.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Room was very clean and neat. Bed was very comfortable. Ample storage room both in the main cabin as well as the washroom. I think I would avoid infinity balcony in the future as we spent less time with window down than we would on a traditional veranda with sliding patio door.

Ship tip

Make good use of hot tubs and pools in the evening. We did every night because they were empty

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
Love Old San Juan. Lots to do and see. Very friendly people and easy to get around.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

4 out of 5
Take the time to meet locals and have them take you on a tour (make sure they are licensed to do so for your own safety). We did and "Mr. T" was very proud of his Island and very knowledgeable.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
We have been here 5 times and this is a very safe port with lots to see and do. The water is beautiful as are the beaches.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very fast. We walked off with luggage and cleared customs in less than 15 minutes.
