We went exploring on our own and figured we’d kick into their economy. There was a young man preforming in the square that was very good. We enjoyed ourselves.

we were only give four hours in this port so we weren't really able to see much. our excursion to jost was cancelled due to the very short amount of time we were there (7:30am-11:30am) in addition, because we were there so early, a lot of the shops had not even opened and who wants to go to a beach at 7:30? however, tortola is a beautiful island and well worth going to, if one has the time for an actual visit.

Waste of time unless you pay extra to do something, too much time spent here for just walking around, looks like poverty all over, would never go back

Beautiful port. We skipped the sponsored shore excursions, and hired a local cab to take us around the island. He took us to a beautiful beach on the other side of the island, which less people than the crowded ones near the port. He also was a tour guide for us, talking about the island's history and economy as he drove. He made a point of stopping at a beautiful lookout point so we could take pictures. He even came back to pick us up at the end of the day.
