Sitka is a great place to get on a smaller boat for wildlife watching. Saw a couple whales and multiple otters and eagles on a beautiful sunny day. Raptor center has a nice presentation. Fortress of the Bear is interesting, but a bit depressing setting - they are doing good work there though. We also docked at the pier a few miles outside of town, which was unexpected. My dad and my husband did an all-day fishing excursion and had a blast catching halibut.

We really enjoyed the Fortress of the Bear. Even though it's small, we were able to see the bears pretty closely and I was glad that by visiting, our money helped to fund this private bear cub rescue facility. We also did the Sea Otter Expedition and saw several gray and humpback whales along with bald eagles, seals and of course, sea otter. The captain and the on board guide were both very good at finding and pointing out wildlife and there was plenty of time for pictures (if you were quick enough for the animals themselves!) =-) We also visited the Raptor Center which was nice.

Our favorite is is not a tourist trap like the others, We want to fly in and spend time there, Be ready to pay to be shuttled into town and pay when you get there for activities they are half the price than you pay through the ship lines. Going back on the buses from the city is very crowded and and organized

great little city, which we toured before our excursion which was billed as an otter and wildlife viewing trip. We did indeed see otters and a few eagles but the best part were the humpbacks that put on quite the show for us including the young calf that breached every few minutes for almost 1/2 hours. Loved this part of the ship
