Spent 2 days in Juneau because we were unable to enter the port of Skagway due to weather. Went on the Whale Watching and Salmon Bake excursion. we had an excellent Captain and guide during our whale watching and were in the midst of a pod of 8 humpback whales and we were happily surprised at how really good the Salmon Bake was. All of the food was freshly prepared and home made by the local peoples of Juneau.

We took an excursion to Mendenhall Glacier. The bus driver provided lots of information about the area while en route. We had a good amount of time to explore once we arrived at the Glacier. After the glacier, we returned to Juneau for a great crab lunch and then rode the tram to the top of the mountain. The views at the top were great, and we saw a bald eagle!

There are several Vendors located on the Pier as you disembark your Cruise Ship. We booked a Trolley Shuttle for $80 per person to take us to the Mendenhall Glacier through Juneau Tours. Upon arrival at the Glacier, there is a walking path which takes about 10-15 minutes to get "close" to the Glacier. Not our planned Helicopter trip landing on the Glacier but, we still got to see the Glacier and it's surrounding waterfalls. After taking lots of amazing photos, stop off at the Visitor for a complimentary 12 minute movie about the Glacier. There is a small Gift Shop and clean bathrooms.

October is the last of the Whale Watching season but HARV & MARV'S WHALE WATCHING TOURS was amazing - Captain Michael was spectacular, he had the BEST eyes for sighting the spouts and because it was end of season it wasn't crowded so he could maneuver us quickly!

This is one of those places you go to that you just know you'll eventually return to visit again. We made so many wonderful memories. Can't recommend enough!! I LOVED every minute of our time there.

We did not care for the town of Juneau itself and the bus tour that we took was not very good. However, this port was worth the stop to see Mendenhall Glacier. In every port, there seems to be multiple jewelry stores on every block. How much jewelry do people need?? It tended to detract from the charm of some of our port stops.

Juneau was my personal favorite of all the ports. Mendenhall Glacier was stunning and whale watching was great. Perhaps my favorite part of the enitre cruise was out stop at Tracy's Crab Shack. It was by far the best crab I have ever had.

We had booked the helicopter ride to the Glacier for a dog sled ride. It cancelled due to bad weather. I hear if you book this later in the day it is less likely to cancel. We were given the option to take the helicopter to the glacier for a 20 minute guided walking tour for half the money instead. We were more than satisfied. It was amazing and no regrets about the missing the dogs. It was amazing. Highly recommend. We had booked this through Celebrity cruise line.

Mount Robson Tramway worthy of viewing and close to port dock, so no problem to navigate. Mendenthall Glacier helicopter and walk on Glacier an absolute must for anyone visiting, albeit expensive yet memorable.
