Juneau was fun but the town itself is not that spectacular. The two standouts were the Mendenhall Glacier and Tracy's King Crab Shack. We rented a car and drove to the glacier. We went to the visitors center and then hiked to Nugget Falls, which is very impressive - it is huge and there is an easy hike to walk right up to it. When you are going from the downtown/cruise port area to "the valley" where the glacier is, watch the light poles above the freeway - at one point you pass near the dump (although you can't see it) and there are bald eagles sitting on the street lights, passing right above your head. Tracy's King Crab Shack, near the base of the Mt. Roberts Tram, is really fun and had great food. The huge king crab legs, and crab cakes are very good, but I think the crab bisque is actually the best thing on menu. By the way, in Juneau and Skagway, the Alaskan Shirt Company has the best souvenirs - the best shirt designs and by far the best prices. I don't see how the other places stay in business, with them close by.

Juneau was probably my favorite port. We took a bus out to the Mendenhall Glacier which is a beautiful site. If you have time the walk to the waterfall is worth the hike. The best part was the whale watching tour. We were lucky enough to connect with Dolphin Jet Boat Tours...Captain John is the best captain in that harbor. He had us on whales in no time. He was kind, courteous, answered a ton of questions. He was very conscientious about balancing giving us a great trip and making sure he was not crowding the whales or doing anything to endanger the wildlife. He is top notch and I would highly recommend him to anyone going to Juneau. Whale watching will make you hungry for...what else? Fish! Try the Twisted Fish...great halibut and Alaskan cod! Well worth the trip.

The Capital of Alaska was gorgeous and we saw the 4th of July Parade and all the beautiful decorations and colours. We planned an excursion to Menden Hall Falls. What a beautiful and wonder of nature. We loved it.

Great stop, Mildenhall glacier and whale watching, did all excursions through Cruiseline for a whole lot cheaper than booking onboard with Guest services

If you are in Juneau during the whales bubble netting season (most likely in June-July), you MUST go whale watching. We always use a company called Juneau Whale Watch. They have a facebook where they post updates as to how the whale watching is. We have seen tons of whales bubble netting and breaching with them and it is an incredible thing to see! Multiple times, the whale watching has been so good in the morning that we booked them to go straight back out on the afternoon trip as well! Some photos in my profile. If it is not a great day for whale watching, or if we have a long Day with enough time after whale watching, we like to do Mendenhall Glacier/Nugget Falls. There are some nice walking trails, and you can walk right up to the base of the waterfall.
