Make sure to visit the Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget falls. It's only a $12 shuttle which you can get right outside the ship. No need to prebook an excursion. It will take only 2-3 ours back and forth. If you want the additional experience, do the dog sledding either on land (via shuttle) or on the Glacier (via helicopter).

Take the tram up Mt. Roberts and enjoy the view. There is a walking loop you can take once you get up on top of the mountain. The path is rocky, and uneven in places so you will need to be physically able to make the trail.

Again, daughter did teen excursion of ziplining through the rainforest. Great fun! Do not be fooled by the bus tour of Juneau. If you think you're going to ride around and hear all Juneau stories, you're mistaken. It was a great excursion but lots of walking. It included the Mendenhall glacier, Glacier Gardens (fabulous! Don't miss this!), and the salmon hatchery. Good Juneau stories during the bus portions, too. If you want to shop for souvenirs, hit The Great Alaskan T-shirt Company (also in Skagway).

I have been to Juneau several times. This time, we visited Mendenhall Glacier park, my first time. Although crowded, I was glad to walk through the visitors center (don't miss the time lapse video showing the retreat of the glacier over the years). We also had a chance to walk some of the trails which reminded me of the rain forest trails on the Olympic Peninsula, and gave us a chance to get away from the crowds.
