Review summary

Amazing, once in a lifetime trip for us. The scenery was beautiful. The weather was a wonderful break from the heat. The crew and staff were charming. The people friendly and fun. I wish we could do it again.

Embarkation

Embarkation was comfortable and relatively quick. Vancouver port so a little different than others. We were the only ship in port on that day so we didn't have others to contend with.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All the food, from the walk up restaurants to Cabana's buffet to room service to non-stop soft serve ice cream to Tritons, Animator's Palate, and Tiana's Place were amazing. The food perfectly prepared and delicious.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Play Bingo with the "Bingo Queen". How much fun can you have playing Bingo? You'd probably be surprised! Just wait until they call B-11. There were "Game Show" activities, Trivia contests, Family Karaoke, the pools were open an heated, even the water slide got some use. All sorts of fun activities to do but Bingo was our favorite.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Only saw a couple of stage shows - Frozen and Dream (I think that's what it was called). Excellent Broadway class shows. In fact the Dream show did feature a Broadway actress. Music, especially in Tiana's, was fabulous.

Children's Programs

Daughter went to the Teen club, Vibe, every day. They even had excursions for teens only.

Service and Staff

Our server so loved his job, he smiled all the time. Our stateroom host was amazing. He came into the room at least 3 times a day, cleaning, turning down beds, leaving towel animals and chocolates. We loved all the staff there.

Ship Quality

This is where Disney does everything right, I think. Super clean. Everything in working order. Even I, who get lost all the time, could find my way around. The design of Disney ships is so unique, right down to the ship's horn playing Disney tunes, ensures you'll never mistake Disney for another cruise line ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

We had a little noise...not sure what it was but something rolling back and forth (maybe a cart?) on the deck above us. Didn't bother us any but some might be sensitive. Not loud, by any means, but not noticeable.

Ship tip

If you want something, ask. Onion soup and it's not on the menu? Special birthday dessert? Extra toiletries? If it can be done, the staff will do it for you. They're that good.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

We did do the Hop on, Hop off bus tour at the end of our trip. There was no hopping off...we were exhausted. Vancouver is nice but very, very expensive. $54 for a small buffet breakfast for two! Crazy.

Ketchikan, Alaska

My daughter went snorkeling! Yes, really! It was awesome but she did get cold. Super nice people and there was a whale out there! We also did the Lumberjack show. It was terrific and we'd probably do it again. Just good, clean fun.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

World's fastest zip rider! Exciting and a great time. My daughter did the teen excursion of this. Whale watching was not quite what I expected (expecting a smaller boat) but we did see a humpback whale and a pod of Orcas!

Juneau, Alaska

Again, daughter did teen excursion of ziplining through the rainforest. Great fun! Do not be fooled by the bus tour of Juneau. If you think you're going to ride around and hear all Juneau stories, you're mistaken. It was a great excursion but lots of walking. It included the Mendenhall glacier, Glacier Gardens (fabulous! Don't miss this!), and the salmon hatchery. Good Juneau stories during the bus portions, too. If you want to shop for souvenirs, hit The Great Alaskan T-shirt Company (also in Skagway).

Skagway, Alaska

My favorite stop. We rode the train to the top of a mountain through the Tongas National Forest. Beautiful scenery and amazing stories of The Gold Rush. We also panned for gold, had a little chat by a man who raced, and finished, the Iditarod, met the sled dogs, and got to pet and hold 5 week old puppies (who doesn't love puppies?) A great alternative to the pricey helicopter ride/dogsled excursion.

Fairly quick but no porters, so be prepared to cart your own luggage around (they have free carts available).
