We booked private whale watching with icy point whale adventures and it was amazing!!! These folks were native Tlingit and gave us lots of info as well as the whale trip. Saw more whales then we cud believe including a breach!! Small boat with only 14 of us so plenty of room. Had snacks aboard and then on the way back Duane pulled over and we saw a coastal brown bear and her cub!!!!! Made the entire trip !!!!!

Small port many did the 90 seconds of pure adrenaline zip line or the overhaul crab charter/feast tour. Which were all well recommended and boasted about. This out of all the spots was best to see whales (humpback, orcas and sea lions) hands down. Many went in Juneau which does have sighting but not quite the same experience since its usually raining in Juneau. Whale watching a must do for sure in Icy Strait Point.

The icy strait pier is a new facility with a few large souvenir shops and restaurants just off the ship. Nearby Hoonah seems like an old-fashioned fishing village but there are a couple of very small eateries and gift shops, but not a lot, so don't get your hopes up. We booked a whale watching excursion (Icy Strait Whale Adventures) directly with the vendor prior departing for our cruise. We were met at Icy Strait by the boat's Captain and loaded onto a small bus. The bus took us over to Hoonah where the boat was docked. The boat's Captain (Duane) was great and was able to find whales even in dense fog that eventually cleared out. I have no idea how many whales we saw, but is was more than a dozen. We saw a pod of whales bubble feeding during our trip. The boat had drinks (chocolate, coffee, soft drinks, water, etc) and chips which were included.

Real Alaska without all the many jewelry stores. We had the best halibut and chips. There are just a few local shops. My husband bought a nice knife there that was made of mammoth bone and Damascus steel. We walked the beach and saw hundreds of starfish. Sat on a bench and watched a whale from the shore. Also walked a nice trail in the woods.

This was our favorite stop. Our 4 yr old twins did the Chick Pea course which was incredible and a bargain since they could go as many times as they wanted. They did the course 6-8 times over a 5 hour period with breaks in between. My wife and son did the Adventure Zip Ropes Course and they loved it. I did the Zip Rider which was soooo much fun. We also went to the beach and turned over rocks and found tons of crabs, star fish etc. Loved this place. The nature walk was fun too.

Visited Icy Point Straight and Hoonah...like visiting a page out of time. Small quiet village with friendly folks. Cool scenery and great halibut and chips!
