A: When cruising Alaska think daily “layering” of your clothing to meet ever changing weather conditions. We’ve cruised there three times before and experienced snow in July with below freezing temperatures and short sleeve weather approaching 80 degree... s. As your cruise approaches follow weather forecasts for your port towns and dress accordingly. For “normal” summer weather, you’ll want a a waterproof outer layer with room underneath to wear a fleece and / or down middle layer over a cotton long sleeved tee-shirt. Blue jeans or similar canvas pants, warm socks, and waterproof shoes with a good grip sole will round out your wardrobe. Gloves and a warm hat may also be necessary in the morning hours. As for recommended excursions, one of our favorites was a whale watching cruise in Auke Bay (Juneau). Have a great cruise. Alaska is wonderful!See More

A: Last year we went to Alaska. I brought a book bag and my roller board . Plenty of clothes and did not overpack. It can work. A beanie for your head- if you... have a balcony you will get some wind even though the ship is going slow but it'll keep the heat in. A: You will only see what happens to be in front of you at that moment from a balcony. If a pod of whales was bubble feeding off to the front right of the ship, about 1/5 of the balconies could see it. From the top deck you can see everything.

A: Try to get a cruise with both Icy Straits and Glacier Bay. These are my favourite sites in Southeast Alaska, with Hubbard glacier a close third. As for cruise lines, I’ve been to Alaska on Princess, NCL, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Celeb... rity. Choose the cruise line that best fits you. Each one caters to different types of cruisers. I have heard the best for outdoors is Nat Geo cruises - more expensive but great for nature experiences.See More
