Second person free airfare

We had a pretty good experience on our last cruise with NCL buy our airfare for one guest, and the second guest flies FREE. I've heard horror stories of them not putting people on the same flight, late flight changes and long layovers. Please comment on good and bad experiences.

We used it in August from Detroit to Rome. They must've changed the amount of days you can arrive because we were told 3 days early and leaving 3 days after the cruise. We decided on 2 days before and after. We had a great outbound, nonstop from Detroit to Rome and a 2 hour layover in Paris on our return. We arrived in Rome at 8:45 am and got to our Airbnb around 10:15 am and was allowed to check in early. We had a great experience with it but I've been told some horror stories. From tobykingacct reply, it was a horror story but as they mentioned, flying only as a couple (which we did) to give it a try. Also, OldGreyWolf stated they are not in the airline business but we also got our flight information after the change deadline. I think it was a savings of $1,500 getting the free flight. Some people it's not worth the aggravation but that much savings is huge to us.

I used the NCL air promotion on a transatlantic cruise, London to New York.

This was my experience. Los Angeles to London, we flew directly over London for a two-hour layover in Rome, then on to London. If you want to arrive early, which we all know you should, you can only arrive a maximum of two days early, same with departure after the cruise. We had never been to England, so chose to arrive two days early, which really meant one day, as the arrival day we only had time to check in to the hotel then get dinner, and departure day was spent getting to the port.

The flight home was from Newark, New Jersey, and didn't leave until 8:30 pm. The airport transfer is included if you arrive or depart the same day. If I'd have known of somewhere to store our luggage, I'd have explored New York and taxied to the airport, but we ended up spending the whole day in the Newark airport.

The upside was that the flight only cost us $599. The flights were not ideal, but they also weren't horrible. Is the inconvenience worth the cost savings? That's a question you'll have to answer for yourself.

Im interrupting foosball and hoops and pre dinner fluids to reply....I hope enough peeps read what happens when you deal with folks who aren't in the airline biz, and sometimes I'm beginning to doubt they're even in the cruise biz. Fortunately we do all the arrangements ourselves, refuse to fly, and double check everything as sail date approaches...some might call it anal paranoia...I call things happening the way they're supposed to part of the fun...MY fun....used to be "getting there was half the fun...." not no more, and not for a loooong time....bad enough when things don't play out they way they're supposed to ON BOARD....you learn to deal with it to salvage a cruise..we've all had that happen...but going to war just to get there???...nope...nowaynoday.....now then, back to the REAL events of the day...((((((BURP))))

Well in fairness, NCL is not in the airlines business and in order to be able to provide the cheap fares they provide they need to be creative .. which usually means behave as a second class citizen and get whatever is available on whatever lines they deal with so 1 here and 3 there. Filler is cheaper. Not what you may noy=t have wanted to hear but unfortunately that is reality.

We are not fans of flying therefore we usually drive to port. The only exception was on a repo cruise and we drove to the train station and used Amtrak before and after the cruise.

We have a family cruise scheduled in January for Hawaii on Pride of America which includes six family members. Five of us are flying out of the same airport in Michigan and it’s a 100 miles from home. When I booked this cruise (for the 3rd time due to Covid) I went against my better judgment and went with their buy 1 airfare, get 1 free. I asked our Norwegian travel agent if he could at least put a note that our 3 cabins are all family traveling together and it’s a trip of a lifetime. I told him that’s half the fun of taking a trip like this. He said he could not do that. We received our airfare reservations in October and what a mess! Three of us fly out at 7 am and get into Hawaii around 3:30. Two of our party leave at 9 am and don’t get to Hawaii until almost 5 pm. Coming home they have 1 person leaving at 2 pm, 2 flying out at 6 pm and my husband and I at 10:50 pm. We all arrive back in Michigan with 3-4 hours difference making it hard to carpool together. I called them right away and asked why they put us on such a late flight and the person on the phone gave me some malarkey that it was because it was a West Coast flight. I told him that doesn’t matter as 1 in our party is leaving at 2 and 2 are leaving at 6 so I knew there were earlier flights. He could have cared less. His favorite word was unfortunately. I tried changing it through the airline but got the message that it would have to be changed through Norwegian. We’ve flown on Princess Air and Royal Air and always with a group. It’s funny that they can get everyone on the same flight but it’s impossible for Norwegian to do it! If it’s just 2 of you traveling together give it a try. If it’s a group DON’T do it. I will never use Norwegian air again! I would rather pay extra and have some control of our time and flights and keep our party together than have the schedule they set up for us.
