Meeting New People

Hello All,

This is the first time posting on something like this. I'm glad it exist. Haha. I was just wondering if there was a way to meet new people on a cruise? I've been on plenty but this is the first time I'm going as a lone wolf for the most part. I know many ships have dinners together with strangers and that is how I've met friends before, but Norwegian and their dinning setup you can eat with your own group any time basically.

Any advice? I'm not the most social butterfly either, but just maybe some options. I do frequent the casino.

I thought this was our roll call!

We have our own roll call here on the site! It's sailing-specific so you could ask in there if anyone will be looking for friends onboard. You can find it here: https://cruiseline.com/rollcall

We always do Anytime Dining because it gives us for flexibility and like JusMe said, sometimes you run in to someone that is bound and determined to be cranky. We like getting a table for two, whenever possible, but that doesn't mean we don't meet a lot of nice people. We have met a lot at surrounding tables.

I have found the Piano bar to be friendly place to talk to people. For dining when traveling solo I prefer anytime dining. I just ask for a shared table and I have met some nice people at dinner. Only a couple times have I been at a table with cranky anti-social people and the good thing is the next night new table mates.

Both NCL and RCCL now offer singles cabins on their newer ships and these do have a private lounge for those in the singles cabins. They also usually have a singles meet and mingle the first day or two of the cruise to allow one to meet other people.

You could also try to see if there is a roll call for your cruise on this link https://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/forum/66-norwegian-cruise-line-roll-calls/

you may find some likewise cruisers

Awe thank you AuntPinkie! I've noticed the roll call is super slow (based on posting dates), but maybe I'll get lucky and find someone to chat with before the cruise. Nervous but excited for this adventure. 😊

Welcome to the forum. I think Yankee47 covered it well. There are several single cruisers on the forum and I'm sure they'll pop in a tell you what they think. You may also arrange to meet folks from your roll call. Sometimes the chat on a roll call is slow (almost always in my caseSad) but you can try and maybe have at least someone to look for when you board the ship.

Enjoy your cruise!

I appreciate you replying! I've been on plenty growing up, but always with someone or family. I guess I never really paid attention to the meet n greets.

This should be interesting. I'm going at it alone so I guess I will just try to get out my comfort zone more than I already will be. Haha Thanks!

HI THERE...If you've "gone on plenty", then you know that all lines have their version of "dailies" delivered to your cabin the night b4. Usually all of them have whatever line your line calls their meet n greet for singles, or solos, etc etc. yes NCL's anytime dining, which we are very familiar with, allows you to eat virtually anytime, and "almost" any place sometimes with, sometimes without reservations, depending on the venue. We eat by ourselves...we've found that sitting at a table with strangers might be fun...or not. The "not" has outweighed the fun part. There are more and more singles and solos traveling and cruising, but I understand the difficulty in sidling up to someone and starting a conversation, especially if you're not a "couple" doing it. good luck......
