Is the cruise ship buffet gone forever?

We all know that as cruising begins to resume many things are going to look quite different. Do you think the days of self-service cruise ship buffets are gone forever? If so, will you miss them?

I don't prescribe to any "new normal" nonsense. But I think making the buffet line "served" isn't really a bad idea anyway. Our local buffet restraunt transitioned early on, and it's really pretty much the same - you just point and they hand it to you.

I won't miss the congested lines on Embarkation Day!

From the YouTube's that I watch on the cruise lines that have started back up in Europe, the Buffet is still going strong, you are served, more like a cafeteria, mask on and no eating until you are seated at a table with only your travel party. I'm good with that. I like that the person in front of me can't squeeze every roll till they find the one that feels good to them.

There was a Buffet near the house that I used to go to often (I eat healthy and my friend eats does not. I could get a large salad as he filled his plate with deep fried foods and carbs) Even before Covid I would not go to the buffet during cold and flu season.

I’ll just bring my own plate from home. Technically it’s a serving platter, but that’s semantics.

I totally agree, let us get back on the water !!!

So much of self serve has changed since we first started cruising. More changes are in store. I just want to be able to cruise safely and this is a small price to pay.

Agreed...and THAT my friend got me to thinking...always dangerous..the fly in the ointment....hmmmmmm

Buffet and self serve were becoming questionable before covid. Now I think the self serve buffet is a thing of the past but a full serve buffet is still a viable option and I suspect it will still be there. Maybe not right up front but as soon as everything settles in.

I just need a vacation...Crying

I do think the self-serve buffet is gone forever and yes I will miss it sooo much. On the positive side, as long as the buffet is still there, even if they serve it, I will still be a happy camper!
