Short Danube cruise

My wife and I are thinking about doing a River Cruise this upcoming spring, in April (this one) 4 days from Passau to Passau, Germany...........sort of a romantic tour for our anniversary. We've never been "cruise people", that is we've never taken a cruise before, either ocean or river.

All comments are appreciated about doing this.......the good things and the things to watch out for.....the weather on the Danube river in April........etc.

You will love your river cruise and the one negative will be that it is too short. Dressing in layers is great advice. I have not been on the Elbe but the Danube was beautiful. I loved my Castles on the Rhine river Cruise. Usually older people take river cruises but short cruises may have a slightly younger group. Food and service are usually very good, entertainment maybe less so but the river itself is entertainment.

Hello fsucpa

Thank you very much for your response. We actually made some changes to our plans and we are going to take our cruise on Elbe and not Danube:). We picked out this one and I am really excited about it - Prague is so romantic :)

We loved our Viking River Cruise. We did the 7 night Rhine Getaway in November of 2013. My wife and I are in our 30's. Most passengers were retirees, but there were two other couples our age and one teenager.

Since you're new to cruising - just know river cruises you're not going to get seasick. There is no assigned seating when dining and everyone was so nice. At night you eat and sleep, during the day you're taking tours and walking around towns. Not sure if you drink or not, but having unlimited free alcohol was great. They serve wine and beer from the region and will always have a house red or white.

In November, Europe was real cold but we were prepared (long john's, heavy jackets, layered well). I'm assuming it's still cold in April there.

I can't wait to do another cruise with them. We had done it for our 10 year anniversary trip. If it wasn't for work or kids, I'd take many more cruises. Hopefully in the next year or two we'll do the Danube.
