At the end of this month, RCCL will start adding a service charge of $7.95 for food orders delivered to staterooms except for continental Breakfast orders, which will still stay complimentary. The cruise line is joining Carnival & NCL in charging for room service. What are your thoughts?.

How Do You Feel About Room Service Charges?

Carnival still has free items on the room service menu, with upcharges for certain items. Continental breakfast is still free, as well as a variety of sandwiches and such.
I don't mind a charge for room service--if I don't want to pay it, I can always take my happy self up to the Lido and get my own food :)
Good for you! On the other hand - lines at the Lido are getting increasingly frustrating - and places to sit scarce - and technically you are not alowed to bring food back to the cabin.

I get it. But cruising is a total indulgence. The constant assault on a passenger's pocket book or bank account erodes the enjoyment. They need to throw the passenger a bone or two (without hidden costs or gratuities) to convince them that booking the cruise was a good idea. Free chocolates on the pillow? I don't eat the stuff - but it sends all the right messages. The goofy towel animals? Again - not functional - but sends the right messages. Free room service? Sends all the right messages. A free "welcome on board cocktail" that is REALLY free? That would start the cruise off right and make up for (some of) the coming rip offs.
Well I guess the other side of the coin you can look at, it doesn't cost me extra to go get breakfast myself. Sorry to be negative about it as I am not really. There is a price for luxury and convenience.
Part of life. Everywhere prices always going up. Don't like it but have no choice but to accept it.
Part of life? Maybe. How about raving about ships/cruise lines that resist the incremental (almost geometric) price gouging creep adopted by their competitors? And damning the offenders with vicious reviews. May encourage them to behave.
It seems a little overkill seeing as you already pay close to $200 in tips before you even get on board. But your only option is just not order it if you don't want to pay.
