Holland America Kicks couple off cruise ship

Yeh MIKE...doubt it...that's why I commented that hardly anything happens on board that the cruise line admits to...unless somebody disappears....theyre just like casinos...nothing bad EVER happens...riiiight….bad press...….bigger targets, deeper pockets....

I saw a fight on my very first cruise( 10 pm on a sea day) I decided to go down to the Lido deck for a soda and take it back to my room(since our room was on 9.) This guy fell on the bar floor and this lady helped him up and his drunk wife/girlfriend started to fight her. I'm telling you if they did in fact push the worker there would have been officers and security there instantly. Ever since then I went to deck 3 and got a soda and brought it back to my room. I never went back to the lido deck at night.

By the way, the guy kept saying that he was going to sue Carnival. Yes, my dad fell in the buffet area and I almost fell. But they do post signs that the floor may be slippery. What do you expect when people's feet are wet from the pool?

Yes, it does seem fishy as well. The captain does run the ship and is the deciding factor. I think they are just trying to get money from HOL (for some unknown reason) maybe they disliked their cruise and wanted their money back.

AUNTPINKIE, and others......I'd be curious myself to see how it ends up. theres clearly another side to this...I wonder how many peoples expensive cruises get ruined because of obnoxious passengers, unruly drunks, on and on...I once asked the Captain of an NCL ship what happens to people who are so out of line they have to be confined...is there a "brig"?? the answer was yes, but he has never had to use it..its more like a locked up stateroom way below decks...another cruiser asked how its possible for dozens of different nationalities to get along as crew...to his credit, the Captain said they always don't, and he has put CREW off the ship. Its a big deal to admit something like that in a public forum.. Apparently NCL will pay their way home. And, I would assume, they know who recommended the miscreant and so on. Anyway, seems to me a lot of cruisers would applaud HA for being proactive and protecting the "serenity" and safety of their passengers. You know as well as I that hardly anything happens on board that the cruise line admits to. unless somebody "disappears"....

This entire story is based on what the couple is saying. I find it hard to believe that Holland America would go to these lengths without proof. Sounds fishy--this can't be the entire story.

I am looking for "the rest of the story". The part I can agree with is; why invite them back if they were bad enough to kick them off in the first place? I am guessing it was mostly a form letter and not a real reply to their letter.

I have seen several people who should have been kicked off cruises over the years...and they weren't This backs into the whole discussion of the authority of the captain of a ship at sea, as opposed to being in someone's territorial waters. And the expectation of judicial process that WE are used to. I don't side with anyone in this matter not knowing what really happened. But I agree with you that passengers on cruises will "go after" the cruise line for compensation for any problem, real or imagined.

Keeping in mind the Captain's authority of Prosecutor, Judge, Jury and Executioner, the Captain was thoroughly in his rights (and duty) to kick the couple off the cruise line.

An employee charged that a passenger assaulted them, and identified this person as the perpetrator. There is allegedly no video to contradict what the crew member (or the passenger) is claiming. What else should the Captain do? In an effort to maintain the peace on his ship, he makes an example out of the accused. (Remember, you have no constitutional rights on board). The cruise line is backing the Captain because that is what corporations do.

The question that no one is asking is why did the crew member say the passenger assaulted them in the first place? The passenger is not always right.

As far as interviewing the accuser and the accused in the same room at the same time -- never a good idea, and could end up jeopardizing any criminal case in an American court (not that this is being sought). Additionally, the chance of violence significantly increases when you do this.
