Has NCL lost the plot?

My wife and I have a $1500 credit with NCL and are having a hard time finding a decently priced cruise. Free at Sea? Yeah right. There seems to be some hefty charges built into their pricing structure and those "freebies" are costing more than on similar lines. Comparing costs lately have them priced closer to Princess and Celebrity rather than RCL and Carnival. We are Platinum on NCL but it looks like we won't be making the next level unless they reign in their pricing. Now is not the time to be loyal to one cruise line. Shop around!

My bad. Just realizing that now. We have always booked a balcony or higher so we thought it applied to all cabins. We had the credit which we had to use or lose so we booked a cruise that we weren't really planning on. Went cheap and got an obstructed oceanview. Fingers crossed.

Did you book a balcony originally or higher? That gets you 2 meals. Below a balcony is 1 meal which I did not know as. I actually booked below a balcony and then bid and was awarded a balcony and still only received 1 meal.

BTW, it occurs to me this AM that if you haven't looked at the "reward levels" on NCL lately, go do so. There's really no qualitative difference between Platinum and Platinum+...other than stroking our respective egos. And of course, that different color card...(unless they run out...)FWIW, as I posted elsewhere, even tho we have several booked, this is easily the longest we've gone without a new booking, not counting that COVID mess.....are we making a statement? is this the end of an era? what??

We've cruised on NCL twice in 2022, (and twice on CCL)....and never noticed that change, which went into effect JANUARY 2022..reason being it didn't affect anyone who booked a balcony or higher. (Platinums still get 2 free in that envelope in the cabin) I've been complaining about that "pay more get less" policy for quite awhile, and NCL isn't hardly the only line to "adjust" things every chance they get... Unfortunately "shopping around" isn't sufficient...the devil is in the details. If you think you can get a better (cheaper?) value elsewhere, by all means do it...just try to be aware of what you thought you were getting might not be true by the time you actually book it. I haven't seen any line "retroactively screw" people, when you book something even if theres a change, its "grandfathered" in...but I'm willing to learn...good luck...(I wish we still had a $1500 credit laying around..I'd book next door to the Captain..)

Update: We have booked an Alaskan cruise in August but it looks like the cutbacks continue. Previously we received 2 specialty dinners with “Free At Sea”….now we have noticed only one dinner is included. C’mon man! NCL, I think we’re done.

I still like NCL pricing so long as they continue their 2 for one deal or second passenger sails free or 50% off, which ever way you say it so long as they stick with that as they have for the past 9 months they are still competetive. It will only be an issue if they ever try full pricing.

Well said...as I have posted b4, we're edging closer and closer to that position..we're platinum too, but that certainly isn't the basis for decision making...not anymore...unfortunately, deciding to cruise stopped being a calendar check and a handful of clicks, mebbe a pho call...now, it seems its an epic (pardon the word play) experience, and a frustrating one to boot. Yes everyone in here knows they're spending bux..sometimes BIG bux, to cruise...it shouldn't leave a sour taste....I've repeatedly said "pay more, get less"...now you can add "work harder" to find something....ummm...appealing....

Norwegian has decided they are a luxury cruise line, according to their prices. They finally drove my wife to other cruise lines (and she is a loyalist) just because of the pricing.

I think this is what happens when you have an accountant running a service organization instead of a person with a customer service background. To an accountant, you either raise prices or cut services. They have done both.

They raised the per-day service charge one week and cut cabin service to once a day the next.

It is rapidly becoming a rip-off.

Our last cruise was on Carnival (very nice Voyages cruise) and we have two booked on Royal before our next Norwegian cruise.

I don't think they are worth the money any longer.

I still think it's a good value. We went on a weekend trip, that we have taken before, and it was considerably more expensive than before Covid. But I plan to continue to compare.
