Does the NEWS impact your Daily Life and does it Influence your Cruising?

I need a cruise right now to get away from the NEWS ... I have found myself in a crazy position of watching cable news (all 3 channels - MSNBC, CNN and FOX) throughout the day and night - nonstop - constant background noise as I work on various projects ...I watch all 3 to see the different perspective they take BUT have seriously become addicted to this craziness.

When Barcelona happened, I immediately search to see what cruise ships were in port and cringed at the thought of innocent cruisers wandering through port ...

I obviously crossed Guam and Venezuela off my travel list ... Without getting "political", I watch in horror as America implodes before our very eyes ...

I have never done this in my life and am actually getting concerned at my obsession yet when I am on a cruise, I pay little if any attention to what's going on in the world.

Anybody else experiencing this odd phenomena right now ...

I watched the news on my last cruise as there were demonstrations in Seattle and was wondering if we were going to be able to get to the sea tac airport. Most of the time the t v is off

Now, why does that not surprise me? Big SmileLOL

If we wait until the world is safe we would never go anywhere. Our next cruise booked and we will take our chances from the UK.

I've gotten out of the habit of paying attention to the news. All they seem to do is sensationalize at best, make it up at worst. The only news source I trust anymore is the OnionBig Smile

I watch news all the time. Because of funds this year we will not be cruising, however, I do follow international events as I know a few folks who River Cruise in Europe and Asia. When I do get a chance to travel I listen to External Affairs Canada for warnings.

Hopefully, the whole world will find it's balance again, after the current batch of brainless leaders go by the wayside.

I hear you DV. We have 4 local new stations, in addition to the cable news channels. At times it's just overwhelming. I too have limited my viewing, once or twice a day is enough. Yes, it has impacted my land based and cruising choices. I'd love to visit Thailand, cruise the Nile and tour through Greece. With so much international stuff going on, I haven't gotten up the nerve to travel that far from home, yet Wink.

I watch both Canadian and US news but don't let it have much of an impact on cruise plans. If there is a warning about safety. I'll check into it more, and may decide to choose a different cruise, but it hasn't been an issue so far.

I can verify this report. ctav and I were within 15 minutes of each other, but due to my work and his having to get home for work the next day, we just couldn't meet up. It's going to happen though. Didn't help that it was the first day of classes for Western KY University either :( Bowling Green was a parking lot.

On Monday, August 21st, I saw an invasion of the south by the north. I witnessed more Yankee cars driving South of the Ohio River than any other time. However, it didn't last long and they turned tail and ran back north in a traffic jam over 200 miles long.

We do try to keep an eye on the news and the weather for places we plan to visit. We have found the need to go early to avoid bad weather and be prepared to spend an extra night after debarkation. We have also stayed on the ship a time or two when we felt the port was not safe. We will take only ship sponsored tours when we feel the area is not as safe as usual (like Mexico right now). Anything can happen anywhere, and we prefer to be as aware of our surroundings as much possible. We have never cancelled a trip because of the news or a situation described in the news, but that's one of the benefits of travelers insurance.
