Cruise Elegant Events (Formal Night)

I will preface my question with the fact that this will be my first cruise ever, coming in Nov 2017, on Carnival.

So that I will know what to expect, is there a special event to meet the captain and officers during the Cruise Elegant night, or formal night?  How popular/crowded is this event?
On this night, is the best time to have dinner early or late as far as minimizing impact of crowds?

Thanks.

William

I've met a captain once and that was on one of the Behind The Fun tour.

Elegant can be crowded depending on the place and time they take pictures. I am YTD and always go late because the lines to eat can be just a wee bit longer on elegant nights.

Depending on the number of days of your cruise, there is one elegant night up to five days for the voyage and for a longer voyage, there will be 2 days.

Have a great cruise.

I agree with ctav, about the crowds.  We usually skip the "meet the Captain and his officers" as we are lucky enough to have other opportunities to do so.  We go really early to dinner when we have YTD to be sure we get seated.  Yes, there is a line waiting to get into the dining room ....but we rather get seated than wait for ever. We eat early at home, so eating late is not an option, if we can't get seated within a reasonable time we eat on the Lido.

Please note: Carnival's "cruise elegant" isn't extremely dressy.  I usually advise my friends to dress as you might for "church" or perhaps a wedding. There will be a few dressed in tuxes and gowns, some in suits and cocktail dresses, with most of the men in dress slacks nice shirt or maybe a sport coat (no tie) with ladies in nice sundresses or "pantsuits". Treat this evening as if you were going to a very nice restaurant at home.

Have a wonderful time.

Yep... Skip over dressing.. It's gone by the way side.... Look nice but it's not necessary to gown up. My 2007 cruise everyone dolled up.  Gone now.

Thanks.  I am also doing YTD, we'll have to plan accordingly.  We only have to deal with 1 elegant night.

Thanks.  I bought a sport coat a month ago with this in mind.  I'll share this with my travel companion so she can pick out her outfit..

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

I agree with ctav, AuntPinkie and Todd about the dress code. My husband has taken a sports jacket a couple of times, but often will wear pants, button down shirt and sweater. Packing the sports jacket means extra room take  up and now that airlines charge for luggage, it can make a difference. I usually wear a summer dress that I wear to church or to a summer wedding, or capris with a nicer top.

We have never bothered to go to meet the captain or officers .

On the Carnival Sunshine, we went to deck 5 to sign in for dinner and then were directed to the MDR on deck 3. There was never any lineup to be seated, and it worked out great.

Please se ask any questions you think of and you will get lots of responses from other forum members. Some you will just laugh off - we enjoy helping each other, and having a few laughs or teasing while we are at it.

Cruise elegant is a pain in my tail(been on 14 cruises so far).  If we want to dine, we pack"church attire)  Carnival doesn't require formal wear, just "nice clothes)  We have a quirk.  We have our photo taken with each captain on the different ship we ride.  On cruise elegant night Carnival has a photo booth where the captain poses with you, taken by ships photographer.  (we use this service, but he will pose free also.)  I like to talk with the other ship officers and have photos made with them.  Outside of the captain my favorite officer to have a photo with is the enginerring officer.  He makes the ship go.  We eat on lido deck during this time

This is the captain of Valor and his photographer for cruise elegant night

Valor's engineering officer on cruise elegant night night.  Notice I am not dressed elegant(I eat on lido deck on this night)  They will pose with you dressed elegant or not.  Outside of the captain this officer is my favorite, he makes the ship run

Valor's captain's photographer on elegant night.  I bought the photo she taken of the captain and me, so I asked her if I could pose with her...a cutie from Russia..good photographer
