Casino Smoke

A common thread that I see in the forums and in the ship reviews is smoke from the casino permeating to other areas of the ship. It seems to be common on all ships and across all lines. One poster even commented that this will never change because cruise lines do not want alienate ANY of their passengers.

Yesterday (11/11/2020) Celebrity sent an email introducing their newest ship, the Celebrity Apex. In the announcement it mentions "a smoke-free {casino} environment". I am wondering if anyone knows of any other ships that are offering this?

The worst ship we have been on for this is NCL Breakaway because it is open o the decks above and below it. The best is probably NCL Encore as they have a separate area for smokers that is closed in. Other ships haven't really been an issue unless we have to walk through the casino because of the deck plans.

Unlikely they'd do it...the past is prologue...however, given the attempts at improving air filtration touted by the big three, that might help keep it from permeating nearby areas...won't help while you're sitting (or standing) in the casino. Many ships were BUILT to force passengers to walk thru the casino on that deck..this is another reason to carefully eyeball deck plans BEFORE selecting a cabin, especially on ships you've never sailed on before...let the TA do it for you, and you may need a gas mask...although, nowadays, that cloth covid mask might help.....I hope this doesn't turn into a smoking vs non-smoking debate.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this plays out, once we actually get back to cruising. If it works out better this time, maybe other ships will follow suit.

Carnival tried this back when the Carnival Paradise was new 1998, the first No Smoking Ship. In 2003 she was changed to having smoking, it seams non smokers also do not drink or gamble as much as smokers do.

Interesting !!!!

I just received the email from Celebrity yesterday. I almost jumped for joy !

I have not heard of any non smoking ship casinos ...
