Any suggestions for first-timers on Carnival Magic who need wifi for the teenagers? Is one package faster than the others, or just different in what sites you can access? Can we text on-board with iMessenger (we all have iPhones), or do we need the Carnival Hub app? Is it true that only one member of our cabin can be on the wifi at a time?

Even the computers suck on board. I paid for 24 hours. I think it cost $16. While checking funds from my bank it took about 20 minutes to stop spinning and connect. Save your money
The Carnival Hub app is great, and you can text each other using it. I haven't heard anything good about wifi on the ships - it's really slow and sporadic and not worth the cost apparently. I was using the free Carnival website checking out itineraries for a future cruise and people around me were getting very frustrated with the lack of connectivity on their devices. Of course, if your teens have homework they need to do and send back to their schools, it would be worth it, but if they are just keeping in touch with friends at home, my suggestion is to save the money. They can perhaps find free wifi in a port, or forgo chatting with friends for a week.
Don't forget the kids Xbox while your at it.
You can pay for everyone on board to have wifi it doesn't have to be just one. But I think you get individual codes so 2 people can't use the same code. I ordered my wifi last week for my upcoming cruise (for me not my kids because I want to keep in touch with my mom while we are away) & I had the option of paying for all 4 of us or however many I wanted. I took the $4/day pkg since I just want to be able to touch base with my mom via FB Messenger every other day or so & didn't want to pay a ton of money for something what may or may not work well. I've heard every ship as well as locations on the ship is diff, sometimes it works great, other times not so much. My kids won't have access to it though, they will survive a week without it.
The wifi on the Carnival ships is slow and spotty....not reliable. There is a reason the crew scurry to wifi areas in the ports. You can use up your minutes and get nothing for time. At least that has been our experience.
I'm with Bak - teach them about the real world, interacting with other people that are standing right in front of them, the value of fresh air, a bit of physical activity and all the fun that can be had without staring into a screen.
One of the major reasons I cruise is to get away from it all and totally unplug.

why, do your teenagers need wi-fi ? They need, air, food, water, and sleep.
what you mean to say is, they really, really want wi-fi. Well, this might be a perfect time for them to find out we don’t always get what we want. Besides, there is plenty to do on board, including meeting other teenagers.
The only reason they might actually need WiFi, would be to get school assignments while on board. In that case, get as much as you can for free because connecting can take forever.
I had the Hub on Magic. Make sure you download it in Port Canaveral. Its a good App. Shows you your bill right away and has hall the daily activities on it as well and it's free As far as the Wi-Fi I can't help. Just heard its not worth the money and takes forever to connect.
