Carnival experience

I found it hard to find the proper title foe this thread. I thought about "Do you believe in second chances" but I digress.

We took the 14 day Alaskan Cruise on the Carnival Miracle last year. Where we enjoyed the cruise overall we found the food on the Miracle to be terrible. Thankfully we were not the only people who felt that way. It left me in no hurry to book another Carnival cruise.

Well fast forward a few months and our dearest friends are retiring and want us to join them on their retirement cruise. We readily agreed and they choose the 14 day Alaska cruise on Carnival out of San Pedro, our hearts sank. When I saw it was on the Splendor we decided to give it a go.

We looked at each other and thought oh my, 14 days of pizza and the grill. Where we looked forward to the cruise and spending time with our friends we were not enthusiatic about the dining.

Well I have to say we were pleasently surprised. The staff were awesome and the food was very good from the dining room to the buffet. We had a great time on the Splendor and are very happy we gave Carnival the second go round.

This experience is not surprising. I have seen many reviews where loyal cruise line passengers have had a bad experience on one ship. Some have sworn off the line while others have given the second chance and in most cases they found that the bad experience or food was not the norm but an anomaly, a one off. The same can happen in the best of restaurants. Now if it happened on 2 or 3 cruises ... ok then there is reason to scuttle the line

Hey I like it!

It was shut down. Several members (thankfully) migrated here.

Hey, didn’t Carnival have their own forum at one time? I couldn’t find it yesterday.

not a bad name for their next ship. The Carnival Experience. With a Jimi Hendrix tribute show of course

It is cool that your experience with them ended on a good note. :) All's well that ends well!

So happy to read that the food was good on your second Carnival cruise. We have always enjoyed the food on Carnival but I know that sometimes anyone can have a bad experience with food on any cruise line.

I have been disappointed with my last two Carnival cruises (Sunshine and Freedom). The service seems to be slipping and I found the rudeness of the average passenger to be upsetting. (I realize that many Carnival passengers do not fit this description, especially the ones here. However, the passenger base seems to be sliding downhill in an accelerating manner.) They have changed the MDR to the "American Table" which I do not care for - the atmosphere or the menu. I will miss Guy's Burgers, but even they are not worth putting up with the stress I get from sailing on Carnival. I will not say Never Again, but I will say Not In the Forseeable Future.

Luckily, in my opinion, Princess still offers what I am looking for in a cruise. I will also test out RCI for my Galveston fix.

Have not been on a ship with Guys’s Burgers yet, but sounds yummy.

I can only speak of Carnival. Never had a bad cruise with the exception of my aft balcony last year. Sucked.. The food is definitely hit or miss. And to Bonnie's comment. Guys Burgers and fries are greasy and FANTASTIC... AHAHAHAA I WANT TI SHOVE IT IN MY FACE!
