Carnival experience

I found it hard to find the proper title foe this thread. I thought about "Do you believe in second chances" but I digress.

We took the 14 day Alaskan Cruise on the Carnival Miracle last year. Where we enjoyed the cruise overall we found the food on the Miracle to be terrible. Thankfully we were not the only people who felt that way. It left me in no hurry to book another Carnival cruise.

Well fast forward a few months and our dearest friends are retiring and want us to join them on their retirement cruise. We readily agreed and they choose the 14 day Alaska cruise on Carnival out of San Pedro, our hearts sank. When I saw it was on the Splendor we decided to give it a go.

We looked at each other and thought oh my, 14 days of pizza and the grill. Where we looked forward to the cruise and spending time with our friends we were not enthusiatic about the dining.

Well I have to say we were pleasently surprised. The staff were awesome and the food was very good from the dining room to the buffet. We had a great time on the Splendor and are very happy we gave Carnival the second go round.

We were on the Miracle for a repositioning cruise from New York thru the Panama Canal, ending in Long Beach Calif. We had a blast, and the food and crew were outstanding.  Of course this is my opinion, maybe crew change, etc. changed things.  So far all our cruises are with Carnival and we have not had a bad one or bad food.  So much food, so little time.

We haven’t bedn on the Splendot, but we have been on the Miracle and we love the ship. In fact it was our 2nd favourite so far. We have always enjoyed the food whether the  Lido buffets, drli or MDR. The only food neither of us likes are the greasy, drippy burgers at Guys. Yuk! We all have such different likes and dislikes, tastes vary greatly and even shipboard food can’t please everyone. Wink

We loved the Splendor as well.  We had all the kids and grands with us.  There was plenty for everyone to do.  Seems like most folks have that one Carnival ship that just doesn't fit them.

We sailed and had a great time on the Splendor.

In our 11 cruises, we have never had terrible food throughout the cruise. There was always some other venue to fall back on should the MDR not work out.

Happy to hear you gave Carnival a second chance and it paid off! We have been on many Carnival cruises and there have been a few that at the end we have said "glad we know this is not the standard, or we wouldn't sail on Carnival again".  It has even been on the same ship! I cannot explain why this happens but I am always sad for the first time cruisers when we have a poor food service or other minor (to major) glitches. We have often explained this is not the norm, but that doesn't seem to help. We have enjoyed both of these ships and would sail on either of them again. Welcome home!

Carnival seems to be hit or miss.  I've never been on the ships in question, but I've been on The Triumph and The Pride, in that order.

The Triumph was actually our second time on Carnival, we had previously been on The Holiday (I know, I'm dating myself here!).  We hated The Holiday, as we felt like it was a floating Las Vegas, to put it nicely.  When we went on The Triumph (about 5 years later), Carnival seemed to be turning things around.  So, naturally, we decided we would give Carnival another go.

Imagine our surprise to find out that on The Pride (10 years later), they had taken a step backwards!  We hated just about everything, except for Saffie, who was one of the best Cruise Directors I've ever had.

Needless to say, we're in no rush to book another Carnival ship anytime soon.

Saffie was our cruise director. We were her last cruise, she is retiring from Carnival. She is awesome.

I confess I'm thinking of trying Carnival again, especially after reading this.  I went on two Carnival cruises and didn't like the crowd I was stuck with.  But they were both four day cruises on the Inspiration, aka booze cruises.

The staff members on those cruises on the other hand were outstanding.  Out of the four cruise lines I've sailed I think the Carnival staff was the best.

So maybe instead of a NCL Alaska cruise in 2019 like I mentioned on another thread, maybe I'll do a Carnival Alaska cruise.  Or maybe I'll do both in 2019!  We shall see.....

The cruise I took I do not see on their schedule next year leaving from San Pedro. They are showing a 9 day itinerary on the Legend I believe out of Vancouver.

We can talk about it next week?  Most of our cruises are with Carnival and we've seen the very good and the "never again" sides of the coin.
