abandon ship drills

The coast guard requires an abandon ship drill before departing.... a laugh. 3000 passengers and crew leaving ship. If the ship lists one way or the other, you lose half your lifeboats. An aircraft carrier has the same amount personell, do you see lifeboats a hanging??? No, when you abandon ship, you jump off(they teach you in boot camp). Those special need people are sunk chickens as it ain't like Titanic...it is going to be a dog eat dog rush. Me I will grab my lifejacket and my naval training will take over.

Decent video. I wonder if any of the lines have ever had a complete evac drill, with staff and volunteers? Makes you wonder about it. I know that in training airline folks go through intensive drills. And even at work we have different drills for various scenarios.

The muster drills are a bit of a joke. That Concordia video I only watched a few min of, but being at night... not good also. Makes me wonder how much time would it take to get a full ship evacuated... especially some of the mega ships where there are almost 5000 people... Crazy.

Ummm, I don't want to think about it. Survive only to be fish food? Sad

This is an interesting video from MSC about it

I wonder if there is a U Tube video or some such thing out in internet land that shows a full cruise ship being evacuated. If anyone sees one let us know.

I watched the Concordia videos a while back.. Herd mentality takes over unless leadership is present.

Sadly I have to agree with you. In the event of an abandon ship, you will see people step over their own grandmother to get off the ship, especially in the case of fire or listing, etc. Lifeboats I think are more for show than anything because there is no way that there are going to be 3000 people in those few boats even if they can get them all into the water safely.
