abandon ship drills

The coast guard requires an abandon ship drill before departing.... a laugh. 3000 passengers and crew leaving ship. If the ship lists one way or the other, you lose half your lifeboats. An aircraft carrier has the same amount personell, do you see lifeboats a hanging??? No, when you abandon ship, you jump off(they teach you in boot camp). Those special need people are sunk chickens as it ain't like Titanic...it is going to be a dog eat dog rush. Me I will grab my lifejacket and my naval training will take over.

Either that, or "Ninety-Nine Bottles of Beer on the Wall".

And who says we don't stay on topic here?Big Smile

As far as the OP, if you are on an Alaska cruise and you try jumping overboard, you would likely be one of the fatalities. The ocean is at a balmy 30 degrees Fahrenheit. If the shock didn't get you, the hypothermia would.

The best advice is to stay calm and follow orders. As small as the lifeboats look, there is plenty of room for the passengers and crew.

Hmmm seeing this after seeing the playlist thread makes me think we need a special playlist for for the abandon ship drill and it must include Row Row Row Your Boat

If you are stuck on a liferaft for any amount of time, you must remember to remain hydrated. Therefore, Toontes has an excellent idea.

Further, if you grab enough of the bottles, you can always sell them for the casino chips.

I wonder how many casino chips I can grab before I run for the life boat ?

Big Smile That's a good one! But wouldn't the sink come before the drink??

Nothing to worry about. If it happens, it happens then you can be scared. Otherwise don't think about it.Wink

SS Drink and Sink? LOL sorry couldn't resist!

I'm scared to think about it Nervous

Life vest (all available in cabin) and survival training...maybe some booze from the bars top-shelf.

Make a little raft and sip my booze til help arrives.

That looks like fun........ it should be a port day attraction on the ship to go down the slide to a life raft. I'd do it on a port day.
