Cruise tips
We didn’t get off as we have been here before on a cruise ship and yes it’s just another city! Tickets for the shuttle bus were $10 US 😳… rip off!
We had shuttle buses (FREE!) that took us from the ship to the heart of Napier which had a mall of shops. We had a game of mini-golf where the bus dropped us off at the foreshore and there were markets on the foreshore a short walk away.
Same same but different!
Lyttleton (Christchurch), New Zealand
We did an excursion… see the report there. Its another city!
My favourite little town in New Zealand! Plenty of shops with many types of souvenirs. We bought a metal artwork from one of the local souvenir shops which they wrapped for transportation when we arrived back in Sydney to go to Adelaide. The parcel measured 1.3m x 60cm x 10cm. There was also market’s happening nearby. We again played mini golf here which was a better course than Napier and well worth the money! Cute little bay which is very photographic!
Celebrity Eclipse
Just don’t do it! It was very expensive for what it was… Unless your older and just want to sit and read a book there wasn’t much else going on.
Same same but different.
Pretty! But we have seen it four times now while cruising New Zealand… I’m a bit over it now. Nature at it’s best if you want to see mountains and hills dipping down into the ocean.
Mare Isle, Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia
We chose to stay on the ship as we have visited this port on previous cruises.
Duty free alcohol and other shopping always best here! They will charge $5 per person for a bus trip to town or $10 per person by boat... I would recommend both! There’s some nice cafes on the water where you can buy a drink and soak up the atmosphere.
The french are rude. The port okay for a supermarket trip. Next time we might try an excursion.
Small island that you can walk around. Lots of trinkets and holiday souvenirs can be purchased here and they do take Australian dollars. Swimming and snorkeling is good here but beware there can be strong currents.
This port was cancelled last minute due to strong winds and tendrs being unable to safely transport passengers.
Isle Of Pines (Ile Des Pins), New Caledonia
Take snorkeling gear here! We didn’t go this time but we’ve been here a few times and the snorkeling is fantastic! Aim to go right around the large rock island... on one side it’s very shallow and corally and the other side is deep... lots of fish 🐠 Beautiful!
Radiance of the Seas
If you like the solarium area for relaxing on a sunbed get there early because they are premium seats which fill fast.
Astor
If your'e after romance make sure you tell them you actually want to sleep in the same bed! We had an ocean view for a late Valentines Day present to each other only to arrive and be greeted by two single beds that couldn't be moved :-(
Port Chalmers (Dunedin), New Zealand
Port Chalmers is a pretty one street town with a couple of coffee shops and a supermarket if you want to buy stuff that you forgot or purchase chips, chocolate, etc. Some of the shops were closed which was a disappointment, however, they had arts and craft stalls set up in the town hall for cruise passengers to take home souvenirs which were beautiful! $10 US for the shuttle service to go into Dunedin Central.
It’s a city. We stayed for a couple of nights close by at Darling Harbour which was nice and we went for a ferry trip to Manly which allows time for a relaxing stroll and nice restaurants overlooking the beach.
Celebrity Solstice
If you like to have a drink while sitting in a bar with a view... book Royal Caribbean instead... bars open in the middle of the day were far and few between
