Six Wildest Cruise Ship Activities
Cruising is an excellent opportunity to experience something out of the ordinary and try new things that you typically can’t find on land or in your hometown. Many cruise lines have recognized that their guests want to get out of their comfort zone and check out new activities. With this notion, cruise lines have gone above and beyond to create fun and exciting onboard experiences that are unlike anything else.
Several lines have taken onboard activities up a notch to incorporate extreme and wild onboard options such as rock climbing, skydiving simulators, and waterslides that twist and turn off the ship's side. So if you are a thrill-seeker, you are in luck as many of the newer activities on cruise ships are bigger and bolder than ever before.
We rounded up our picks for the top six wildest activities you can currently enjoy on cruise ships. Try them if you dare!
1. Fly Down the Longest Dry Slide at Sea
Brave enough to go down the world’s longest slide at sea? Ultimate Abyss is an exhilarating ride from Royal Caribbean which takes the most daring guests down a 10-story plummeting slide. Daredevils enter the slide from a glass platform at the ship's aft and jump into one of the slide’s customized mats. Push yourself off the edge for a quick, hair-raising ride to the bottom in just seconds. Ultimate Abyss features two dueling slides where you can race a fellow cruiser down to the bottom. Additionally, it is a dry slide, so those who don't want to brave the water versions can stay fully clothed to experience this heart-pounding ride.
Here’s what Ultimate Abyss looks like from a rider’s perspective:

2. Channel Your Inner Captain Jack Sparrow
Ahoy sailor! Located in the ship’s ropes course area, the adrenaline-pumping Walk the Plank adventure is unlike anything else you will find at sea. Thrill junkies harness up and step onto an 8-foot long, six-inch-wide plank suspended over the ship's side. So gather your courage and look down for an exhilarating water view!

3. Soar Over the Ship on a Rollercoaster
BOLT is the first-ever roller coaster at sea. Brave guests jump in a motor-cycle style coaster car, strap in, and will shoot down an 800-foot long track. Catch the 360-degree ocean views as you zip across the ship with a smile on your face. The ride features race-car-like acceleration speeds and culminates with a hairpin turn around the iconic Carnival Cruise Line red and blue ship hull. At the end of the ride, you will get a report of your acceleration speed and a souvenir photo.

4. Get a Souvenir That (Literally) Lasts Forever
It's no surprise that cruise line newcomer Virgin Voyages would have one of the unique activities on our list - an onboard tattoo parlor. ‘Squid Ink’ (appropriately named to honor the nautical origins of tattoo culture) is the first-ever tattoo spot on a cruise ship. Nothing could be more adventurous than getting a souvenir of your voyage that will last a lifetime. In partnership with World Famous Tattoo, Squid Ink offers custom vegan tattoos and piercings, and permanent makeup.

5. Cool Off on the First-Ever Water Coaster
AquaDuck is an exciting, family-friendly activity found on select Disney Cruise Line ships. This water coaster (part waterslide, part roller coaster) was designed by Disney Imagineers, so literally, think of it as a theme park ride at sea. Guests brave enough to check out AquaDuck can jump in a two-person raft at the entrance of Deck 12 Aft. The ride goes up, down, and even off the ship's side through a thrilling 4-deck drop. AquaDuck features 765 feet of snaking tubes with transparent and uncovered sections, allowing for great views of the ship and ocean below. The exciting ride ends as you splash into a lazy river at the bottom.

6. Race and Zip Across the Entire Ship
Many cruise lines have implemented zip lines on their cruise ships, but MSC Cruises has taken it up a notch with dual, side-by-side zip line rides on some of their Seaside class ships. These zip lines are currently the longest at sea, spanning 394 feet across the ship. So grab a friend or family member for a bit of race competition to see who can zip from start to finish first.
MSC Cruises’ zip lines are available on MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview (Extra Cost)
