Cruise tips
Too bad Civitavecchia is the gateway to Rome! The town itself is quaint with great restaurants and shopping. It is a easy walk from the ship to town, they may even offer a shuttle. If you get the chance, give Civitavecchia a chance 😊
Naples offers so many things to do that it is hard to choose. This was my fourth visit and we walked into town and took the funicular up to Fort Sant Elmo and enjoyed the amazing views of the city. We encountered plenty of shopping and cafes.
Four of us walked from the port to the Capuchin Crypt about three miles each way! Great way to see the city and we got to see dead people!! Haha the Crypt is actually very fascinating.
Take the hop on hop off bus tour of the island. It’s a great way to get around and easy on the wallet. There’s a great cafe in the fortified city that has spectacular views.
The hop on hop off bus has three different routes that go around the island. We did the one that went to Mgarr. The beaches on this island are second to none!!
Mykonos did not disappoint. Mom and I had a great time walking in circles and getting lost. Make sure to look for Petra’s the Pelican. I was lucky enough to meet him.
Chania is wonderful. Make sure to hit the big market for shopping. There is a pottery shop on one of the tiny shopping street run by a mother and son and they make beautiful pieces, I brought one home with me!!
Take the train to Olympia and walk the same path as the first Olympians. Olympia is a quaint town with lots of shopping. The port of Katakolo also has great shopping and a duty free shop on the pier...CHEAP CIGARETTES!
Sarande is the gem port!!! Due to my Mom doing some work for a travel company, we received a free personal tour for 10 hours. We had a driver, a tour guide and a comfy Mercedes. We went to the Blue Eye, probably the most beautiful place I have ever seen. We went into Central Albania to Ghirijokastor, then back to the coast to Butrint, a world UNESCO site. If you get the chance, go to Albania.
Go to Old Town and walk the wall!! Such an amazing experience and the views were superb! Very crowded! If you can fin your way down to the private cove you can find some peace and quiet.
Split is wonderful! We happened to be there in a Holiday so some stores were closed. Diocletian’s Palace is fun to roam. Euros are not accepted, you have to get Kunas and you will get sticker shock, a bottle of water is 4,000 Kuna 🤣
Stayed in a Airbnb for two days before our cruise and I didn’t want to leave. Venice is magical!! We got off the beaten path and explored empty back roads, we just kept making turns and getting lost but it was great fun.
