No need to purchase an alcohol pkg . Every bar has a happy hour and the alcohol is reasonably priced.

Familiarize yourself with what amenities are in your cabin, such as the storage drawers! Do not opt for something called Open Seating, aka My Time Dining. I heard many people complaining about the wait for a table. Choose the later 8:00 PM dining as that allows you to take the excursions with time to get back and eat. The shows are done twice an evening, so you can always see one. Be sure to follow instructions if you have to be tendered vs. being docked at your destination ports. Take advantage of everything you can do. It is a great ship, and Holland America does things right.

Bring a shawl or sweater, they kept it cold.

Make sure you take it all in. If you have a trip where there is a scenic sailing and the bow is open, try deck 5 or 6 instead to get outside on the bow. You will have a much better view and will not be tripping over everyone on deck 4.

don,t expect the most modern ship but the staff and the atmosphaere makes up for that and gives it a flair of its own - do make it to the photo gallery early enough to get your pics - they close and pack up and your pics are shredded- no getting them later!!!

Plan ahead, book excursions and loosely plan each day. It is great to eat breakfast and lunch in the dining room, less hectic and usually good options. Find a lounge you like and stick to it for your daily routine of grabbing a drink before/after dinner. Visit all of the lounges to see which you like the best. Ocean lounge was my favorite because of the staff, and it was on my dining deck.

Be aware that this is an older crowd. Lots of walkers, wheelchairs and scooters.

Great ship size, smaller ships better service!

It's a great size ship, not too bug or too small. The crew is wonderful.

Balcony cabins are large enough to do Pilates/yoga

Remember the daily service fee is $13.50 per person so it eats up any shipboard credit you may have.

Wash hands frequently and bring along some cold medications.
