As usual we always enjoy the excursions off the ship. This time the ship experience left a lot to be desired.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
We had to wait a long time standing in line because Coast Guard was onboard for a surprise inspection. It would be nice to have received text updates telling us our embarkation was delayed.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Main dining room food was good as usual. Some nights it was exceptional. Really did not get as much sea food as I was expecting. You had to pay for lobster; It was offered one night ‘free’ . The Lido Deck offered quick easy meals in a more relaxed dining. Some of the stations were very good.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Most of them he fitness classes such as yoga you had to pay extra for. You could use the gym really early ‘free’ . We bought the spa Thermal room package. Very expensive for a couple but we ended up using it because there was really nothing else to do. I attended one cooking show. It was hard to see what they were doing and you did not get to sample what was cooked.
Entertainment
1 out of 5
Magician Was just ok. A ventriloquist would have been ok but had too much profanity for me to like it. The rest of the shows did not appeal to me.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
As usual most of the staff waiting on us were top notch. We did have an experience where the wine steward lost our bottle we brought on board and served us another which was not as good.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
This ship is getting old and needs maintenance. There were cracked windows everywhere. Even in areas which were created for viewing out at the oven. Stateroom was old and tired looking; bathroom needed a major update. I complained twice because the steam room and sauna stunk so bad. They really did not correct the problem
Cabin / Stateroom

It was clean but small. Very old furniture, bed , desk area.
City gardens are beautiful! Took an extended excursion to Peggy’s Cove. Our favorite place in the cruise. Ate some very good lobster roll there also. Very picturesque area. We loved it!
We were supposed to hike the tablelands (one of the few places the mantle of the earth is exposed) but there were so many people who were physically challenged (who should not have signed up for this excursion which was rated strenuous) it kept those of us who could hike from being able to do it. Very disappointed.
Excursion to the Anne if Green Gables Hone was wonderful. Saw a lot of beautiful countryside. Visited Prince Edward Island Preserves; it was wonderful. They had a sample tasting set up; there were so many great ones I had to have my selections shipped home because it would have been difficult to travel with them!
Walked into town. It was quite a walk. The town was lovely. Went on an excursion to Sea Shell valley. It was just ok. When we got there we had to wait in our guide to arrive. There seemed to be a miscommunication of time for the tour. She did not speak English well. This excursion was on a school bus. Very uncomfortable.
We hike the National Forest. There was a lot of confusion on this excursion. Our first choice was canceled without explanation before the cruise. The second choice (hike on your own) was not clearly defined. We had a terrible bus ride (school bus with no shocks) to the park. We did enjoy the trail we chose and hiked in our own.
We lived old town Quebec City. We stayed at the Fairmont. We did this in our own without Holland America and I’m glad we did. I saw the huge crowds being led by tour guide through the city and it was crowded. We went to eat on our time schedule to avoid the crowds.
It was ok. Thank goodness we were not relying on A Taxi ; the line to get a Taxi was long. We got an Uber ride. Still the communication on where to go catch a Uber ride was disappointing. Very chaotic when you got outside the ship. I think disembarkation took so long and was behind schedule because there was a Hugh amount of people on this cruise who were physically challenged. More than I have ever seen in a previous cruise.
