3 months after our cruise I'm still trying to resolve an issue. 7 emails and nothing back over 3 hours on hold yesterday before I gave up. This cruise line needs better customer service. They gave us a very large cruise credit but we will never sail Holland America again. Or any cruise line their a part of. NEVER!

Food was average. If you went to the main dinning room it took over 2 hours to get served. In the buffet the deserts where mushy and tasteless. Chicken was pink inside. One drink is all you got you never seen a waiter again. (We had the drink package)
Onboard Activities

We like the trivia games, the hot tub and bean bag toss. But if you have children they will be very upset. 90% where seniors on this cruise and most where in their room by 9. There is very little to do compared to other cruise lines.

The comedian was great! The BBC show on Nature was great the dance routines got old real quick and the seating showed this!

The stewards where very good. The bar staff Ignores you. It's often more then 20 minutes to get a drink! Perhaps it was because I only tipped 5 dollars at a time! The drink packages are very confusing. Canned water is allowed? Where do you get it? The line at guest relations was 30 minutes long every time we went and there where many un happy people.

It's a small ship. I think it was great. Many elevator didn't work over crowding those that did. Many bathrooms where out of order.
Cabin / Stateroom

The bed was hard and even with the egg crate topper it wasn't good. There was a smell of sewage out side our door for a couple days and many complained.
Ship tip
Call Client relations or email them and see how long it takes to get a reply. Do this because when you get back you will have to do it very often. I been on hold for 2-3 hours and then they hang up. 7 emails with out a reply back!
I hadn't been there since 2012 it's gotten worse. A lot more homeless and a lot more crime. The underground shopping was closed due to an event. The tower at Olympique park is closed. There is no rest rooms to be found anywhere. We spent 165$ for 4 people for lunch and that is with no drinks. Prices are worse then New York City! People are even more rude then NYC!
On the Zaandam right now and was on 35 days mid July to August. If I believe you they have fixed all of the problems you spoke of, except the demograghics.
Glad the Eurodam was the opposite of your experiences. However, Holland is notorious for mostly senior passengers, limited entertainment (worse now with Covid issues still popping up), and very little to no babysitting unlike many other lines. We only sail Holland to kick back, be treated excellently, enjoy good food, and expect minimal entertainment. Can’t figure out why you have to be calling about some issue, every issue we had was resolved at the service desk, during the cruise, mostly invalid charges to our account.
