Review summary

Having cruised on a larger ship, we were pleased with the smaller size of the Zaandam. Also, Holland America caters to middle-age and older passengers and families with young children. There was always something to do for everyone.

Food and Dining

Excellent choices of foods, well planned menus. We chose "Dine as You Wish" and were very pleased with all dining locations and variety of foods. well balanced meals.

Entertainment

Although we did not take advantage of every entertainment opportunity, we enjoyed those we did attend. The cruise director was very entertaining, and did an excellent job in securing the talent.

Service and Staff

Very gracious and accommodating staff. When our toilet would not flush, staff appeared promptly each time we called and worked until the problem was solved.

Ship Quality

The ship's layout was fabulous, although we had to rely on the deck plans by each elevator. Thanks for the plans. Good idea to have the ship "map" delivered with the room key.

Cabin / Stateroom

We were on the Veranda Deck and loved our stateroom!! It was spotless and well decorated. The bed was most comfortable and spacious. Like the curtain separating the bed from the couch.

We didn't take any tours, but walked around town. Lots of history.

Whale-watching and Mendenhall Glacer tour was our choice. Because this occupied so much time, we did not choose to tour the town or eat on shore. The bus driver was entertaining and informative, as well as the naturalist on board the tender.
