Review summary

We had included a land trip to Denali National Park before the cruise. I would definitely recommend it. For our first cruise, we couldn't have asked for anything better. Although a little expensive, the excursions made the trip!

Embarkation

For the number of people involved, the organization by Holland-America was outstanding. Just be patient.

Ship tip

If you enjoy seeing and hearing about the local wildlife, don't miss the opportunities with the naturalist on the observation deck everyday.

Simply loaded here.

Took the "Glacier Point Wilderness Safari" excursion. The combination of activities (i.e. whale-watching, hiking through forest, and canoeing to Davidson Glacier) was wonderful and the guides were excellent.

Juneau, Alaska

The excursion we took in Juneau was "Alaska's Whales, Glacier, & Rain Forest Trails". The guided walk through the Tongrass National Forest was a marvelous experience. Besides the beauty of the forest, we actually had a large black bear cross our path. Our guide Gene Miller was so enthusiastic it was infectious. At the time we visited there was some flooding so we weren't able to get as close to the Mendenhall Glacier as we would have liked, but we still had a great view of the glacier. The walk we took around Juneau near the port was very enjoyable, especially lunch at the Red Dog Saloon.

Ketchikan, Alaska

On our excursion, we visited Totem Bight State Park. Hearing the native Alaska stories and legends about the totem poles by our excellent guide was very interesting.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia Did not visit port

Went straight to the airport from the ship.
