Review summary

Honestly, I do not think I would take another cruise on this ship. Too old (both ship and clientele). Plus the allowance of cigarette smoking in large areas really turns us off. Shopping on board was not good and service staff in these areas were not friendly or helpful at all.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Too long of wait.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Main dining rooms, good especially the service staff on certain nights. Most of the desserts were made w/o sugar or flour which caused them to have not flavor. Couldn't do specialty restaurants, and the buffet was "not so good".

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Fitness centers, limited machines and catered to older clientele. Pools were too small and the hot tubs are always loaded with wild children.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Piano due was good. and performers in BB King lounge good, however, the young group who performed on stage was "to so good".

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
The service in our room excellent and some of the serving staff in the main dining room excellent. however the service on deck and at bars "not so good".

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Room size excellent. Ships outside areas and some lounges seems old and looked like it had tried to be fixed but some places you could tell it was old.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Cabin size was awesome.

Ship tip

First of all, it was definitely an older clientele cruise.....(70+) and pretty much most of food and activities catered to them. It also allowed smoking in public areas where you would go to try to relax. Yuk!

Ports of call

San Diego, California Did not visit port

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Did a snorkeling excursion which was fun.

Mazatlan, Mexico

3 out of 5
Toured the city with a personal tour guide which made the trip awesome.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

2 out of 5
Port was so far away from everything and the transportation was hard to get.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Had to get off earlier since one of our party had to be taken to hospital.

Sailed on Westerdam several years back. Yes Holland America is geared towards an older crowd (55 and up). At the time we sailed I was in my 30s so felt at times out of place. Would I do Holland again...yes when I'm 60.
