Review summary

This is an amazing itinerary. Every port was beautiful with a ton of history. Ship was great, not too crowded and relaxing. Highly recommend this one!

Embarkation

Took the 3 hour RC shuttle from Venice to Ravenna. Got to you port and had to wait on the bus 30 minutes before they let us off. We were told the feds were there for a “surprise inspection”. Finally off, long lines to show passport, one if you had just a backpack and one if you had actual luggage including carry on size with wheels. Took about 30-40 minutes to get through that and check in with RC staff and scan your bags.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Windjammer was good. Some Ice machines were sometime blocked off and staff was hand pouring glasses of ice/water and tea. But they were easy to ask to fill your Yeti with ice water for a days excursion. MDR was great. Ate there every night which we normally don’t do. Waiters and staff are amazing!

Service and Staff

Heather and Shardul were amazing! Very attentive and made our dinners so enjoyable! We seldom saw our stateroom attendant but our room was always clean.

Ship Quality

Ship was easy to navigate. Always clean. Love the new wand washing stations for the Windjammer!

Cabin / Stateroom

This was a handicap accessible room(we did not request) but it was great to have a larger sized room. Bathroom was spacious and lots of cabin storage. The shower has of course a shower curtain which is fine but the shower was the best I’ve had on a ship! Only issue was when I hand washed some items in the sink, we ended up with water on the floor from what may have been a slow leak in the drain pipe? Didn’t do it washing my face at night just running the water, or brushing our teeth. We also had small gnats in the shower and on our cabin window that we didn’t know where they were coming from.

Ports of call

Ravenna, Italy Did not visit port

Embarking in Ravenna was about an hour from getting there and off the bus (30 mins) to getting on ship(30-40 mins)

Messina, Sicily

Took the train to Taormina to see the Ancient Amphitheater and it was amazing! Train station is about 10-15 minutes walking distance from the port

Naples, Italy

Did the Rick Steve’s walking tour and it did not disappoint! We took the Metro to the Archiology Museum and started from there. Saw so many colorful sites, fresh fruit and vegetable stands, an alley with many book stalls. Tons of vendors, cafes, places to shop. Lots of history to be found!

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Did 3 days in Rome last year before sailing to Athens. Saw the Vatican, Colusseum, Trevi Fountain….. This trip Rome is under major renovations for the 2025 Jubilee so a lot of places are obstructed by construction fences, scaffolding, etc. Trevi Fountain is getting a new overhead pedestrian bridge. They are still places to go and see of course if you don’t mind all the construction!

Florence, Italy

Did the excursion from the ship. Was a good day! First stop was Pisa and had a great time getting pictures. Then onto Florence where we saw amazing historical churches and the (outside) Statue of David. Had some exploring time after our included pasta lunch!

Toulon, France

Beautiful city! Did the RC excursion from the ship and had a great time. Walked to the center square and we were able to have a few hours free time to explore on our own. Had coffee and a croissant at a beautiful outside cafe. Lots of beautiful historical buildings, lots of shopping.

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Definitely our favorite port on this trip! Spent 4 days in Barcelona after we got off the ship. Stayed in the heart of Playa Catalunya off Las Ramblas. Close to metro and buses. Visited Segrada Familia, Parc Guell, Arc de Triumphe, Gothic City, Barcelona Zoo. An amazing Open Food Market on Ramblas, walking distance to so much! Tons of restaurants and shopping!

Disembarkation

Easy peasy! Carried our own luggage off and we’re off ship in minutes. Long line for taxi’s across the street, but their system is fast! Props to the director there that makes getting your taxi quick and smooth. Cost was about $11€ to Playa Catalunya.
