We rented a car and traveled to the 'cave city" of Matera- wonderful. I missed traveling to the town with the interesting architecture- but I've traveled through the region earlier in the year, and found them fascinating
Another great place for taking the public transport along the coast- very inexpensive, easy to use. Dubrovnik was interesting,if a bit crowded. Loved the bar that clings to the side of the cliffs that you access through the walls.
Used the vaporettos all the time. GREAT value and you get so see the city without spending a whole lot of money.
If you have extra time- rent a car and travelthrough the Dolomites, which are to the north of the city. Absoluely stunning- great history, beautiful villages and the flowers on the homes (chalet style homes) were indescribable- truly one of the "garden spots' of Europe.
Pros: Great itinerary, super good service, outstanding food
