We were told any cruise over 10 days was all seniors, this was unbelievable, we felt like we had checked into a nursing home, more walkers, motorized carts, canes, and people with disabilities... we thought we missed the memo that was what this cruise was all about, everything on the ship was geared for that group, music, entertainment, etc....not for young healthy people
Embarkation
5 out of 5
quick & easy
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Pinnacle extra dining was excellent, all included food was hit and miss, did not always come out hot, dining room menu got boring,
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
pools were cold, seas were rough so alot of sloshing, fitness centre excellent, no poolside crew run activities, everything geared to the nursing home crowd, bingo, ukele lessons,
Entertainment
3 out of 5
2 comediens struggled to get a laugh, dancers excellent, singers excellent, definately have seen better
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
definately not like it used to be, rooms only attended once per day, no chocolate on pillow, no towel animals on bed, bed only changed 3 times in 18 days, staff would walk past you without asking if you needed anything, did not feel like a pampered guest, way less staff on board
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
ship was clean, but there were no trash cans anywhere but deck 8 dining area, they varnished on sea days instead of port days, so certain areas stunk, and you couldn't use doors, you had to walk through the smokey casino to get to the other end of the ship
poured rain both days, we did the grand Oahu 11hr bus tour, very interesting, snorkeling was included but not listed in the itinerary so we missed a great opportunity, the first day we took the free bus to the mall, everything from a dollar store to louis vuiton
we did a 5 1/2 hour bus tour, kona coffee tour very interesting, loved the sea turtles, was supposed to include a snorkle , but it turned out to be a beach at the seaport and we had to go rent gear ourselves, the price of excursions and this was not included, cute little downtown area to wander around, only place we would consider returning to
we booked out to the blow hole, $54 each for a cab ride through what seemed like the worst part of the city, no commentary, rip off, you have to fight your way through what seemed like a mile of vendors trying to sell you something to get to the blow hole, for a mediocre view, stay on the ship
Thanks for sharing your experience with the ship itself. I'll be cruising on it in April for 13 nights; I've always been an old young person, given my lifestyle, but I will keep your feedback in mind to prepare myself for possibly seeing very few or no people under age 40. I hope your next cruise will be everything you're hoping for!
You should've done a little research - HAL is known for catering to an older clientele, and yes, on a 10 day cruise during the school year, what did you expect? Of course it's going to be mostly retired people! (Adults also don't usually get upset about not getting a silly towel animal.)
