The Volendam is a beautiful, well appointed ship that handles the number of passengers gracefully. There is never a sense of crowdedness. Everything is easily accessible and the crew helpful and abundant.

Food and Dining

The menu choices were exceptional and all well prepared and beautifully presented. It would have been helpful to know there are actually 4 dining times vs the 2 we had been informed of.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our stateroom was large with ample storage. It was the first time we have had an inside cabin and were quite pleasantly surprised. It compared favorably with suites we've had previously.

The White Pass & Yukon RR trip was wonderful. Once we returned, we trekked around the town. It's a locale that really doesn't exist except for the cruise season but the RR trip is full of history and well narrated.

The Zip line through the rainforest canopy was exciting and completely refreshing. What fun!! Ketchikan is also very much a cruise city with little going on beyond the cruise season.

Juneau is typically a rainy location and it lived up to its reputation. We shopped til we dropped and found a few unique items.

Pros: After numerous cruises, this was our first on Holland America and we were most impressed! Movement onto and off of the ship was handled expeditiously, the dining room was gracious, meals delicious and staterooms larger than average. Hand sanitizer at every turn helped insure the health of all.

Cons: We didn't have great weather but then that's the norm for Alaska...you expect the worse and are surprised and pleased by sunny days...and we did have a few! The Lido buffet would benefit from additional staff to clear trays/tables
